I joined this academy in August of 2022 and have been thoroughly impressed with the experience. I went to several locations prior to making a decision. The Professors and coaches at this academy are not only excellent but also incredibly attentive to each student's needs. In particular, Professor Andres stands out for his remarkable knowledge and technical expertise in Jiu Jitsu.
What sets Professor Andres apart is his patience and understanding of each student's unique characteristics, including age, fitness level, and body type. He tailors his guidance to ensure that everyone can excel in their training, regardless of their starting point. His emphasis on adapting the game and training to individual abilities fosters a supportive and inclusive environment. As an older athlete (48 years old) I am going to have differences in how I can train and the techniques I can use and Professor Andres guides all of his students to their strengths.
One of the standout features of this academy is the sense of camaraderie among its members. The people who train here have formed a tight-knit community, evolving from training partners to great friends. The positive atmosphere and encouragement from the staff and fellow students contribute to making this academy an awesome place to learn and practice Jiu Jitsu. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, the academy's focus on individualized coaching and the sense of community make it a fantastic choice for anyone looking to improve their skills and enjoy the journey...
Read moreAP Jiu Jitsu is an exceptional studio to enroll your child (or yourself) in. We were first brought to the studio through a family friend who brought my son during Buddy Week. This was an experience that AP JJ promotes to allow currently enrolled practitioners to bring a friend to try out the studio. My son was instantly hooked. Professor André and Coach Vong are super adept at keeping kids engaged, learning and growing as both practitioners of BJJ and contributing young citizens to our society. One of the stand out teachings I have enjoyed is their attention to how the children are behaving outside of the studio. Pushing them to represent themselves, their families and the studio in the highest light and respect they can achieve. Monthly homework sheets are administered and required to be returned at the end of the month with a minimum quota to receive credit. The studio participates in local in-house (and affiliate studio) tournaments which are great starting grounds for kids who are interested in participating in other tournaments such as DREAM and JJ world league. If you are looking to build your child’s confidence, strength, accountability and purpose, AP JJ is a great choice. The children really seem to vibe with each other and they are constantly encouraging and teaching one another. They also have adult classes for any adults looking to explore the world of BJJ. The mixture of ages and backgrounds is prevalent for the adult classes. Thinking of signing up? Don’t wait….it’s a great...
Read moreThis review comes about 1.5 months after my son and I have joined Andres Pontes Jiu Jitsu Academy (AP Jiu Jitsu). My son is 8 and attends the kids classes while I attend adult class. My son attends classes about 4-5 times per week, while I attend class about 3-4 times per week (barring injury). What stands out about AP Jiu Jitsu to me is Professor Andres’ passion for jiu jitsu not just as a sport but as a philosophy for living a positive and disciplined lifestyle.
The kids classes are amazing. Not only does Professor Andres and Coach Vong teach them technical skills of the sport, but they also teach great character building for the kids by assigning monthly homework to promote respect, courage, compassion, goal setting, etc.
The adult classes offer a wealth of knowledge with a weekly curriculum of techniques that is also posted online to assist with progression.
I would definitely recommend AP Jiu Jitsu to anyone wanting start or continue their jiu...
