American Red Cross Blood Donation Center — Local services in Farmington

It is amazing to me how poor the service is at this location. I have been donating blood for most of my adult life and have repeatedly had negative experiences here. I have donated in other states and have never had the kind of experiences I’ve had here- and this was not a one-off, it has been numerous times. They are short-staffed, the staff are rude (unhappy? disgruntled?). I come to give. I am treated like an inconvenience. It is such an uncomfortable experience, and there are not many alternative options of where to give so I keep coming back. But I am done with this location and all of their area drives. Why should I keep subjecting myself to terrible treatment? I will find other ways to be of service to humanity.

This is really sad because there is a pretty high level of need for blood. I get several calls from the Red Cross to donate. They seem to have a disconnect in understanding that people may want to give but are so disappointed with their poor level of service that they don’t. ...

Worst experience donating anything. Took weeks of making appointments and their office canceling hours beforehand because "no one was available to staff the clinic". Finally got in for a platelet donation and the lady doing the screening was terrible. First she told me if I had even a scratch on my arms she would immediately turn me away. Then she took my blood with the finger prick to determine my hemoglobin which from past donations has always been 14.5 or higher. First prick she said I have 12.9 and I needed at least a 13. When asked to see the result she cleared the device and told me no. Second prick she said I had 11.5 and told me I needed to leave. I will NEVER donate again at this facility and actively tell friends, family, and anyone else to avoid...

My fiancé and I visited the platelet center recently, and I can honestly say the entire staff went above and beyond to make our experience amazing. From the moment we walked in, everyone was attentive, caring, and genuinely kind. Even though I wasn’t able to donate that day, they made sure I was completely comfortable and cared for the entire time. I truly appreciate the wonderful hospitality and positive energy from everyone there.
