Its unfortunate this facility is where students educate themselves further because I've only had the worst experiences here in all areas even as little as never being able to contact your "doctor". I would be told their on vacation, sick, left for the day and not their work day even when I was just in that day. I've unfortunately only could go here for my son's orthodontics going on 5 years now) and myself for "maxillofacial specialist" only allowed them 2 years on myself before I realized instead of being honest about their unknowing knowledge of my situation they would rather under play the situation or lie about what's going on. When it comes to advanced medical issues with your face/jaw DONT let them near you!!! If you have simple dental issues go at your risk just know their education only goes so far and they will not be honest about it and play it down. You are your own advocate and you know your own body and if somethig doesn't feel right * question it * get second, third and fourth opinions. Don't allow doctor's to roll over you because at the end of the day they don't think twice about you.
Heres a example of ONE of the things they did to me. I've always had issues with my ears due to my jaw and one major issue is inflammation and fluid will build up so much it puts pressure on my ear drums (feels like earaches everyday) after 12 years Naproxen doesn't cut it but keep the fluid at bay enough. I was hoping if they could fix my jaw appropriately it may help but towards the end of my appointments there and 2 surgeries later "DR" Shafer -Mr. Maxillofacial specialist stated he didn't know what I was talking about with inflammation and fluid in my ears and said for actually the 3rd time to stop taking anti-inflammatories but never gave any other solutions for me so I didnt listen 1st and 2nd time but this time I did and two weeks later and 0 -zero- anti-inflammatories as per Mr. Doctors orders BOTH ear drums ruptured. Obviously never went back and was tired of their nonsense saw a ENT for now that problem b.c I didnt know they ruptured until blood was coming out my ears b.c the pain was always that bad didn't notice. Even after steroids and treatments they have not healed and now will be getting tubes put in my ears which may help to get some of my hearing back and my ear drums may have a chance to go back to their proper position but it will never be the same or better this is permanent damage that was caused by lack of education and lying to me about that lack of education.
We as patients trust to much! I do have the paper work to back all this up but instead of going after the "specialist" for this life changing mistake I rather educate people on their next move here or if they feel like their going crazy b.c of what their "doctors" are telling them but is not adding up you know your body and you can stand up for...
Read moreIf you have multiple children, I do not recommend this place. They have a new Policy when it comes to children. I have been coming to Uconn Health dental care center for years with my children. Doctor Artega is amazing with my two boys. There was never an issue. Both of them were allowed in the back while one had his cleaning done the other will wait until one would finish then the next one will go. Which was so much more convenient for any parent that has multiple children. And makes the most sense. Ever since Michelle Hussey took over she has destroyed the customer care and patient relationship with their dentist. You wait six months for a cleaning and then they tell you you’re not allowed because of a new policy that other children are not allowed in the back The policy is ridiculous. You waste gas getting there pull your kids out of school early. Sometimes you can’t even find parking. Then on top of all that you have to deal with this nasty, rude woman that tries to enforce this policy about kids, which is ridiculous to try to make herself look good like if she’s gonna get a reward or supervisor of the year for sending home a kid that couldn’t get his cleaning done. She broke my sons heart, he was so excited for his cleaning and see his dentist that he has been going to as a baby. My son felt so bad and was so sad that he couldn’t get his teeth cleaned before his formal dance For school. Any person that gets joy or enjoyment from hurting a child doesn’t deserve to be working there or in customer service. Of course, I was upset with this new policy. She hurt my sons feelings and as any parent will be upset. Uconn health makes millions of dollars they need to come up with a better policy for the dental side of the facility. Once again, if you have children, I do not recommend this place for you. I also spoke with Heather and she was absolutely no help. They all work together and don’t care about you or your children. They only care about making them selves look good. You walk in to check in they are all on there phones and gossiping. There I know minorities that work in the front desk. I feel discriminated they way they handled our long term relationship with UConn dental care. I added the policy so no one else will have to go through what I...
Read moreI never write reviews, but this was just a horrible, drawn out experience. I came to them in January sobbing in intense pain, with a tooth that was completely black. They told me to go home and take some Tylenol, after explaining I had BEEN taking Tylenol and nothing was helping the pain, and set up a wisdom teeth extraction. I left with no form of pain management. It took 9 months of agony and ridiculous back and fourth to finally get an appointment. The doctor who performed the surgery was nearly an hour late and didn’t say a word to me. I was given no specific after care instructions, other than being told to set up a follow up for the next week. I called the day after my surgery, and the next, and continued to get the voicemail with no calls back. Over a week later , I was positive I either had an infection or dry socket, because the pain was still unbearable. I finally got in touch with a receptionist, explained that I was in serious pain and was supposed to have a follow up appointment that week. She offered me an appointment two weeks out. It took me finally losing my temper to get them to take my pain seriously. The receptionist was very friendly and was clearly doing the best that she could, and that’s about the nicest thing I can say about this place. Who knows how much worse it could’ve gotten if I had waited that long. The follow up appointment was just as bad. The student told me that the pain should have subsided 3 days after my surgery, I told him I was still in extreme pain, and in tears, and was ignored. He had a horrible attitude right from the beginning of the appointment and seemed to see me as an inconvenience. He finished the appointment by not giving me any after care instructions, not helping my pain whatsoever, handing me a follow up appointment card, and leaving the room without saying a word. Nearly two weeks post op and I’m still in terrible pain. I left several voicemails basically begging for some kind of pain relief, and again got no calls back. Such a lack of care for the patients it’s unbelievable. Something there needs to change....
