The young lady at the cash register was this place's only saving grace. As I was walking in, the sign on the door stated 'covers the nose and mouth before entering the store.
There was a woman named Jan and as I was paying for my items, I asked the young lady at the cash register if this Dollar General accepted cash. She said yes and I was elated as there are many places that are refusing to accept cash even though it is illegal to refuse cash.
So as I am packing my bags up, Jan looks over to me and asks, 'Well why can't I refuse to accept cash?"
It was a fair question and so I explained to her how each note has printed on it 'THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE'.
She read it with me and concluded, 'Well aren't you stretching the meaning of the law? "
First and foremost, if you are working in a Dollar General and you talk to a client like this, I really think you should re-evaluate how you talk to CUSTOMERS. I was very polite when I explained to her the history of why a common currency system was created and she responded with rudeness. She interrupts me as I am explaining the historical context and says "Yeah I already know the history, but that's not how it works here. You must be from the city? Here, we barter, that's how it works here "

Otherwise, the store is a clutter mess and the staff are rude and inattentive. Of the two people who seemed to be on duty when I went there, one was outside talking to someone the whole time. The other was talking on the phone while she slowly checked people out and a line grew. I was in the store wandering quite a while looking for something in the disorganized clutter; and the checker was on her phone the ENTIRE time. My brother went in later, and a checker gleefully closed a checkout line in front of him with a sing-song "closed" and sent him to the back of the other line. I'm stunned by all the...
Read moreDollar General is Dollar General, right? Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this location actually has art supplies, including brushes, acrylic paints, small pallets and canvases. Everything was well organized and affordable. I was visiting the area and many local businesses are closed for the winter season, so it was good to find these items here. The store in general was pretty clean and they have great deals on seasonal clearance. Staff was helpful and friendly so I would definitely return when...
