Runnings — Local services in Flagg Township

I like the concept of this store, but I'm general it's a big swing and a miss for an "ag" store. Where are competitors like Farm & Fleet, Fleet Farm, and Tractor Supply have carts meant for carrying feed bags through store aisles, Runnings has chosen to use GIANT flat bed carts like you use for lumber and paneling at Menards. In addition, the constant displays in the aisles, and the aisle corners, make it very difficult to use these carts in the store. You have to push the cart around a turn, stop behind it, hope it finishes the turn without you, then gather the cart up. Every time I'm at the register I suggest new carts. It's generally met with a shrug. I strongly encourage the store managers to go to Farm and Fleet and she the shopping cart sized feed carts they have. They have a small basket for items, plus the flat part for bags. You push it like a regular cart, and it's about the same size.

The cashiers don't have wireless scanners. So, when you come to the checkout with 300lb of various feed, be ready to pick the bags up because the corded guns don't reach the bags. It's truly ridiculous and makes it much harder for customers and the cashiers.

I want to love this store. But now that Farm and Fleet carries Kalmbach chicken feed too, there's nothing I can get at Runnings that I can't get at Farm and Fleet when it comes to farm animal or pet feed. The ag department here looks like it was set up by someone who has never seen or been to a farm or a feed store. Again, you can't get the carts around. They don't sell basic ag necessities like Betadine or Penicillin

Lastly, the staff just don't seem to care. I've politely suggested carts and wireless scan guns several times and generally I don't even get a verbal acknowledgement. There's virtually never any employees in the store that aren't cashiers, so good luck finding help.

I had such high hopes when I heard Runnings took over this location. And the store has potential. But for me, a person with farm and ag needs, this store has only become less attractive as time goes on. For the longest time you couldn't even order online as their own website didn't recognize this store as a location. I live in Ogle County and most people I mention Runnings to still haven't...

We stopped in to grab a pair of jeans for our daughter birthday. Seth store manager told us as we were headed to check out that they closed in 10 minutes. We thanked him for letting us know. I asked if I could take broken pallets from garbage and I was told no per maneger through the girl on the phone. So rural king gets my business today.
