Being local I've been in here numerous times over the years and I simply don't go back given my experiences, and I REALLY do not like leaving negative reviews for local businesses but fair is fair given how they treat people. Two stars is rather generous to be honest. Most of that for being a very nice shop appearance wise.
I have both purchased jewelry and had custom jewelry made here in addition to taking in precious metals to sell, and a few of those experiences have left a very bad taste in my mouth. Last time I was in a few years ago I had a $500+ pendant made with a heated, small, generic sapphire, I very clearly stated what setting technique I wanted to be used for the stone numerous times, but when I arrived he had made something completely different that required minimal effort and completely different than what was requested. Now, I knew exactly how much this pendant was going to make them given the low priced stone and couple grams of 14k but still went forward with the order as it's a local shop. Mistake. When it came time to pick up the piece I discovered everything previously discussed was disregarded. A preordered 14k pendant had been ordered where they took a ball pein hammer to it to give it "texture", then soldered a circular bezel on top of it. Nothing at all resembling a flush setting we had talked about. In fact, almost nothing we talked about made it to the piece. It was just kind of "winged" and you could tell.
Rather than try to go through that nightmare again I just walked out with it and haven't been back since. I don't want to do another 30 minute session of questions being relayed to Ron over the wall only to have what I ordered be completely incorrect.
In addition to this, the prices they have offered me for precious metals are outright predatory. I've been offered 50% on 24k gold bullion (coins) from here. When a pawn shop offers you more money on gold, it speaks volumes of the kind of people you're dealing with. I suggest...
Read moreI tried to not to say anything about this place but I think it’s time to say my experience since I no longer will be supporting a business that gives you a five dollar used gift card as a “I’m sorry”, I went in to get my engagement ring resized, very excited to get my ring back when they tell me it’s ready to pick up on my way home I realized one of my accent stones was chipped immediately start crying/now I have to go back again to get it fixed. They fix it, But ever so slightly, one of the stones does not match the other, Whatever I accept it, I take it I carry on, I noticed my finger turns green. I assume the soldering they used is copper on a silver ring… I get a cleaning kit fixes the issue. Everything is fine for a while. My fiancé and I get married we go order the wedding band takes a while understandable, Get it fits perfect no issue. After a while, I decide to get those two rings soldered, and then I noticed they soldered the hump that goes over my stone on the wrong side of the ring, and they just filled that little hump with like soldering, I don’t say anything mostly because why should I tell a business how to do their job? Anyway, not even half a year the band snaps, I leave a voicemail I go in. I try to ask if I can get these bands replaced. He simply shut that down. Then continue to tell me that silver tarnishes. But my thing is a ring should not be tarnishing within two days of wearing it, especially with that soldering that they used, Now he uses a laser to weld “fix” the ring I pick it up. I noticed there’s a new scratch in it and they didn’t even fix the other side which is also about to snap. Overall, all he said they can do is put credit towards a different band if...
Read moreI would steer clear of the Goldsmith in Fond du lac. i’ve been in there on three separate occasions, Twicetrying to sell 90% silver coins and 2 days ago some gold. I could never make a deal on the silver coins because their offers were outright disrespectful. The first time I took somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 worth of silver, it was offered $30. At the time silver trading for over $30 ounce I had taken about 5 ounces worth of silver. No deal was made second time it was less than 100 and I was offered $20. Once again no deal was made.I might add these are 90% silver coins that have a value that holds true the world over. My biggest disappointment that came a few days ago when I took in 1 g of pure 24 karat gold that I have melted down myself and a 1 g 10 carat ring and I was offered $18 apiece for both of them. I made a deal for the ring because that was almost almost half of the current market value, but the $18 offer for pure24 karat bullion is outrageous for $95 a gram right now offer me 18? So all I can say is if you want 20% of the value for you’re fine jewelry and precious metals. Then by all means go to this establishment. On a positive note and why they did not receive only one star is it is very nice looking place. It is very clean. They are always very friendly, but they are in the business of taking all of your money so just...
