The company has no control over the items they are auctioning, so I will never hold that against them. However, they are not at all customer service oriented. I understand things need to have rules and set standards so it is not anarchy. But they almost come across as if they do not care about the customers…but customers are their business. My issue is that they offer very little when it comes to descriptions and conditions, many other of these estate auction sites do better. They also do not offer any flexibility. Often only one day previews if previews are available at all. And they rarely offer more than a one day pickup. That is just not always workable with schedules, and I would think not very conducive to their business. But again, they must not care. The one day pickup is what gets me, and why I haven’t bid on anything with them in over a year. I work a job with a very inflexible schedule, and am usually not able to meet their pickup times. They’ve had stuff that I would have been willing to spend a good amount on, but with one day to pick up, I just cannot make that happen. I did call one time to ask them if there was a way to pickup AFTER the pickup day due to my work schedule - I asked before I even bid on the item if I remember correctly. I was told that would be okay. But then when I showed up at the agreed upon time to pickup the item/s, I was told, not jokingly, that that was my first strike and if it happened again (could have been a three strike rule, I don’t recall for certain) that I would be blocked from bidding with them. Again, my issue with that is that I discussed it with them before I ever actually put in the bid. So I have just stopped ever bidding with them at least until they can offer a more flexible pickup schedule. Even a two to three day window would be beneficial, three day especially.
I also live in a community of historic homes, with people in my neighborhood always on the lookout for antique and vintage items. I warn them all that, Rusty by Design does have some decent items, but their pickup windows are horribly inconvenient. Again, usually one day, and often seems to be in the middle of the day - not conducive to work schedules. I recommend most people with whom I discuss it to other estate auctions sites such as Live Oak Auctions out of Fort Worth.
Honestly, I do not write many reviews, but I am annoyed. The people who work there are fine, they have some good stuff sometimes, but the way the business is run is hurting them. I do believe they would get more business, and that items would go for higher, if they could open up their pickup windows some. I would for sure be more willing to...
Read moreThe only good thing about Rusty's is they start the bidding at $5. That's great if your selling basic household items. Everything else they bend you over, disregard what you want, say one thing to your face and do complete opposite. They claimed to have experts of art and collectables to help determine the reserve amount for auction but those items were never assessed to determine the value. We moved out of a million dollar home STUFFED with art, designer items and made only half of what we should have . I know you only received pennies on the dollar! We made less than that. They got really lazy and started just making huge lots with 20-30 items that you couldn't view what was in them and let them go for $5. They said they could sale everything but threw boxes and boxes of sellable items away. We ended up buying back some of the art because they were letting it go for $15.00 each. We initially fired our disreputable sales rep and the owner took over for her. It changed nothing! They broke items and left them lay. They even used every bathroom in the house when we requested they use the half bath only. Total disrespect. They were fired and it took 2 months to receive the first check. We had so much stuff it took numerous sales. The last check finally made it to us after several months and emails and it was for wrong amount and in someone else's name. Be very wary. We trusted them in our time of grief and they took advantage of it. Check out the complaints on Better...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in this auction house. I purchased several lots through a weekly auction, a truckload in fact. The men pulling my lots kept saying this is all, and I would look on the list and find another still not pulled. They seemed irritated when I would point out I was missing something. As soon as I got home and unloaded, I found 2 additional lots missing. I called and no answer, no voicemail, nothing. I called the next day with the same issue, so I emailed. No reply. Plus several items were damaged and wasn't noted as damaged on the items listing. I got this large beautiful mirror and the corner of the glass was broken. What can I do with a broken mirror. This is something that should have been listed, since it was very noticeable. I understand I am taking a chance and they do have pre-sale viewing, but that felt dishonest to me. I looked for additional contact info, but got no answer at the additional phone number. I emailed again. Now it's 14 days later and nothing. So, I'm out the money without the items and will stay far away from this place...
