My family and I ate here last night with some excitement that Forney has a new Asian food option and a Thai option to boot. Upon site, it offers a visual appeal which is up to date to modern contemporary fusion design which is a nice change of pace and brings the designs from the city to the suburbs. But this is where it goes down hill for me. After being seated by the hostess at a booth we requested, we were told by, what I assume was either the owner or manager, to move to another area so she could seat a party of 5. Mind you I had a family of four including myself. She then proceeded to snatch the chop stick my three year old had in his hands out of his hands and place them back on the table. She did not show us to another table but left us in the middle of the place for the hostess to find another booth. I find this disturbing as there were plenty of other table which could have been put together for a party of 5 and which did not have to involve disturbing us.
After being Seated again, we had to wait for 15 minutes for drink orders, mind you the table party was served before us too before we got the attention of a waiter. Once we received our menus and noticed their are no kid options, so please keep that on mind if you have kids. We tested their menus by ordering from different parts of it to compare to other food dishes from local areas.
First dish was the chicken hibachi, small in food serving, but the dish is big which gives a deceiving appearance. Taste is good, and has equal portion meat to vegetables mixed with the proper spices, but based on the price, you would be better off to go to Tokyo harbor down the way, as you would get more and pay less for the same quality.
Second dish was the pad Thai, which I was excited about because I love thai food, unfortunately this was a big let down, the dish is bland in taste, over priced, not mixed with the proper ingredients that a pad Thai dish should have, .....I mean no peanuts....come on. Food came out Luke warm as well. If you are need for a good pad Thai to correct this injustice go to Pho Garden in Rockwall.
Third dish was the Japanese noodle soup dish with roosted duck. Mind you. This dish was made with the wrong noodle, the meat was few and far between to the portion of the noodle and it had very little vegetables mixed. The only good thing was the broth. The duck tasted like frozen duck from Kroger cooked and had a rubber taste to it. My three year would not eat it and in fact spit it out, which he rarely does. The noodles were rubber like and too thick and held no taste. I could not eat the dish.
Finally the last dish was the basic tempura shrimp roll, which for 6 dollars you only get 5 pieces cut. Based on the menu prices and what they offered. You would be better to go to Tokyo harbor for better quality, price and options on sushi in Forney. Pretty much more bang for your buck there than here.
Overall, 1 star is for the design of the place, that is it.
Edit: visited location 4/18/2019 at 8:49pm, came to visit location for a second try, a redemption, a year later, figured all the bugs and bad habits would be trained out. Guess not. Upon entering only saw two tables of families, pretty empty otherwise. After being sat, in the far back, which i guess they do when you have kids, because it was literally the same seat as last visit. The two waitresses present did not take a drink order....for ten minutes, each one passed us 8 times each, only after cleaning dishes, refilling drinks for the other two tables, and answering a personal phone call near us and chatting with the cooks then one of them finally approached.......i just decided to leave.... this place, regardless of their five star reviews, has no count for courtesy and response.....in my foody experience, this place should...
Read moreHaving recently moved to Crandall, my wife and I wanted to try a local restaurant for dinner. Scanning through Yelp, Thai Square Sushi caught our eye. Having craved sushi for some time, we decided to give this place a try.
As soon as we stepped in, we felt a bit underdressed. This is the type of restaurant you want to visit in nice clothes, as it is elegant and romantic.
During the week, they have a "buy three get one free offer," which was welcoming. Following our server's recommendations, the sushi rolls we ordered were fantastic. We were delighted with every bite we took.
Besides having enjoyed our visit so much, there is a concern I would like to address. If you want to offer something on Yelp when customers check-in, you should train your staff on such. When I checked in on Yelp, an offer for a complimentary Indian Pancake Dessert showed on the screen. I showed it to our server, who immediately got the free item for us.
Yet, when we got the bill, we were charged for the Indian Pancake. We called the person who bought the check, and she tried to explain that it wasn't free. Our server stepped in and said that it was OK. A few moments later, another lady, who I assume was the manager, asked our server to step outside and yelled at him.
My wife and I felt very uncomfortable with this situation and would've gladly paid for the pancake, which was delicious, by the way. If you don't want to honor offers you put on Yelp, either don't offer them, train your employees, or wait for the clients to leave before yelling at the staff.
Regardless, we loved this place, will be back, and will recommend it to...
Read moreThis place is fantastic! My new go-to spot for sushi. The atmosphere was great, the fish was absolutely delicious, and they give you a lot for your money compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to.
I ordered a chirashi bowl which was 15 pieces of assorted sashimi served over rice. It also came with tamago which is a Japanese-style egg that is slightly sweet. To accompany that, I also ordered a couple different nirigi style sushi items. Everything from the salmon to the striped bass and white tuna was melt-in-your-mouth tender and delicious.
The only item I was not a major fan of was the squid nigiri. It could just be a matter of personal taste, but I felt it was too rubbery/chewy despite the chef's effort to score the skin in a way that should have made it more enjoyable. It was such a minor part of the overall experience, however, I refused to let that take away from what I think is a 5 star rating!
Something I'd like to see in the future is a specific area on the menu for kids items. I went with my 18 month old daughter and had to ask if they had anything special for kids (they did and it was awesome, btw!). They made my daughter a small portion of steak-fried rice and she scarfed it right down. Since this restaurant specifically advertises non-sushi items as part of its menu, and Forney is full of young families with kids, a kids menu would make ordering a little earlier.
Thanks for a great meal and I can't wait to...
