Gallery Bookshop & Bookwinkles — Local services in Fort Bragg

We visit Mendocino 2x per year for 5 day stays & the 1st place we stop is the Gallery Bookstore. Basically, it’s one of the very best bookstore EVER and visiting the bookstores Gatsby cat 🐈‍⬛ is a must as we have 8 cats that are back home which we miss whenever we leave the Cabin. I bet my husband last time $200 bucks that he was wrong where a local bakery was in town..I won & quickly navigated my way towards the Gallery to have a fun 2 hour shopping splurge & found so many books that I didn’t even know that I needed, but definitely wanted, as well as ordering 2 additional books rather than from Amazon, which shipped directly to us within 7 days of the order. The owner was extremely helpful as are all the folks that work there . I already have 3 books I was just about to order, but I’m waiting til’ we go up there next week, better to give it to local small businesses than Amazon, right? I’ve visited this bookstore a few times, mostly because of the cat. On my most recent visit I was helped by a kind gentleman wearing a fun hat. I didn’t see the cat that day—he was probably taking a break from all the attention, which is fair!

I mentioned that I was looking for something genuinely scary, and the staff member kindly picked out three recommendations for me. I didn’t catch his name, but one of the books was Diavola. I haven’t started the other two yet because Diavola did such an incredible job of creeping me out, I had to stop reading it in my vacation rental—where the book itself is set. A little too immersive!

I just finished the book and loved it! I’m definitely planning to return for more recommendations soon—and hopefully to catch the cat...

This. Is. My. Favorite. Place. This bookstore was amazing. It had ALL of my favorite things. Huge selections of science-y books. Puzzles. Stationary. Fiction. Pencils. Stickers. Postcards. Books about art. Books about birds. Books about mushrooms. Books about mythology. Books about the ocean. Tarot decks. Coffee cups.

They had so many books from my GoodReads list that I began to wonder if this store was made just for me. I might totally believe that it was all a dream, had I not come home with a stack of books to prove otherwise.
