My first experience with Fort Collins was in 1973 - 1975 when I attended Colorado State University on an Army sponsored program for graduate work. I have lived here since 1981 and have seen the town grown over the years, but it still retains the ambiance and amenities of a college town. We built our first home just north of town when I retired from military service. I joined a Civil Engineer consulting firm and am still with that firm. We bought a home in the Southwest part of town in 1990. I have experienced a variety of what the town has to offer over the last 45 years.

I have decided to fully retire in January 2026. I have spent the last six months evaluating senior living options in Fort Collins and have now committed to a move to The Gallery at Fort Collins when it is completed. A number of things influenced my decision. I much prefer the Southwest or Southeast part of town. This area has a strong residential atmosphere and is close to DIY stores and a variety of restaurants, while still being near enough to "Old Town" (downtown) and the CSU campus. I feel The Gallery is located in the most desirable part of town with nice views, lots of trees, and a much more relaxed feel than the busier part of town.

Since I am approaching my 90s and will fully retire, my priorities have turned to the next phase of my life. I am realistic enough to realize that, while I can still live independently, at some point I will need assistance. The Gallery offers a seamless transition from one status to the other without having to move to a different apartment. I am an amateur painter (as a hobby) and am strongly attracted to the emphasis The Gallery will give to artistic activities and an artistic ambiance. I hope to make new friends with similar interests. I have watched the development of The Gallery and met members of their staff. I know, firsthand, that this commitment to the arts is real and will be an integral part of life and activities at The Gallery.

I've developed relationships with members of The Gallery staff that go beyond a business relationship. Deedra, Bryan, and Danny have become trusted friends. They have been most helpful as I've considered options, and I feel I now have a team that will really help me make a smooth transition from my present home to my new home at The Gallery. There is no doubt in my mind that The Gallery will be the premier senior living community in Fort Collins for many years to come.
