I know there are a lot of people in town that say a lot of negative things about our hospital and I'm willing to bet both of them probably have never even been a patient. Unfortunately last night I needed to visit the emergency room. Fortunately, it was a nice facility. It was close and quick to get to. It was probably around 10 PM or little before when I arrived. The intake staff in the waiting room was very kind and attentive. Interestingly, so were some of the other awaiting patients. It was only about 10 minutes before I was shown to a room. First I met Dakota. Really nice guy. I then met Ashley, Jami and Connie. All were very professional and pleasant to work with. I felt like I was the most important person there by the way they were treating me. I've been stuck with a needle more than just a few times in my life. Normally it's quite a complicated process to get a good connection to me. Well, at least that's what I thought until Ashley revealed her world-class vein finding skills. Remarkable, she's a real pro. She got one in and the place I least expected it to be successful, got it the first time and virtually painless. Surely there is some type of award she could be nominated for? After waiting on several test results to come back, the verdict was in. Of course I was going to be fine and the problem was ridiculously simple. Bottom line, our local hospital facility does not deserve the negative things that everyone seems to keep saying. Yes it may have had a really bad Board of Directors going on in the past but the actual healthcare professionals and facility within the organization are top-notch. Within the past couple of weeks, I have visited others in hospitals from the adjoining counties that people seem to rave about. I did not see anything in any of them that remotely make them better than our facility in Gainesville. Should I ever need something in the future, I'm definitely staying local. I do understand that as every facility is ran by human beings, there will be non-perfect situations with fault that will happen periodically. Just like the people that spread all the negativity probably do not lead infallible perfect lives. I wish people would grow up. I'm sure some of the negativity comes from by starting off on the wrong foot having a bad attitude before things even get started. Most people probably don't stop to think about the unbelievable things the staff has to contend with while also under the stress of making sure their patients receive the proper care. Come on everyone… Start supporting your local hospital. Need something done?… Why don't you give it a try? You may be quite surprised. "…and that's all I have to say...
Read moreAfter learning what they DIDN'T do, I am leaving this review in hopes that it won't happen to another pregnant woman.
I had my husband admit me last week for severe pain near my right ovary. I am 27 weeks pregnant and have ovarian cysts on my left and right ovary. They are large and I was told to monitor them. I was in excruciating pain for over 24 hours and after not being able to alleviate the pain, I decided to go to the ER to check on my daughter and see if maybe something serious was going on.
Upon arrival, a nurse was kind enough to wheel me back into a room. The second nurse who tended to me the reminder of the time was very nice, but all they did was take a urine sample and provide some pain medication. The results came back as a "UTI" and they sent me home shortly after. They didn't prescribe any antibiotics, they didn't run an IV even though it screened as me being dehydrated, and I never saw the doctor ONCE. They didn't even do an ultrasound sound to see if maybe my cyst(s) had burst hence the agonizing pain I was in OR check on the baby to make sure she looked fine. It was just "wait for the results and have a good night." There was no peace of mind given except the pain shot they provided.
Three days later I got my test results for E coli.
By this point, I still never received any prescription for antibiotics. Never got a follow up call or any sort of direction on what to do. I was relying on probiotics and home remedies to self soothe. After the 4th day I was experiencing the same pain, but near my colon and kidney area. I knew something wasn't right so I had my husband take me to Flower Mound hospital.
As soon as I got checked in, they ran a urine and blood test. They found the infection had gotten so bad that it was now affecting my kidneys. If I was made aware how serious my situation was, I would've questioned why nothing else was done. This makes me feel like Gainesville didn't believe me when I explained how much pain I was in the first time.
Thankfully, this new staff listened to me when I told them about my pain and performed an ultrasound. They provided me with antibiotics and a bag of IV. The doctor said she was surprised I wasn't peeing blood and she is thankful my baby is okay. They even questioned why no one at Gainesville provided anything else other than a urine sample after finding what they did.
I double checked the hospital portal before submitting my review and sure enough the doctor never prescribed me with antibiotics. Very sad considering I am pregnant and if this was the only hospital available to me, I would've been screwed. Very disappointed....
Read moreEDIT: No director spoke to me before discharging and none of my concerns were addressed. I would not recommend this hospital for Labor & Delivery to anyone. Dr. Noble and the L&D nurse Cindy made our birth experience the worst possible. I can’t think about it without getting emotional. I showed up in active labor only to find the front doors locked and had to drive around to the ER entrance. Once in L&D, I was taken to my room and had my cervix checked. The nurse who did it, Cindy, pushed into me so hard that I arched my body away and said “Ow, stop” to which she replied “Nope, no, no” and kept going, shoving her fingers in me. This was extremely violating and I requested to have another nurse tend to me for the rest of my stay. The other nurse was wonderful. When it was time to push, we were told I had to have 2 of my 3 support people leave the room because “there’s not enough room”. In the chaos of me laboring, they ended up staying in the room. I began delivering at shift change and had about 6 nurses gather in the room that I had never spoken to, all yelling at me to push (including the nurse I requested to leave me alone). Obviously there was plenty of room for my support people and they shouldn’t have been asked to leave. There were way too many strangers watching this intimate moment and I was too focused on labor to speak up. Dr Noble (not my OB, but the only Dr on call) made it in the room about 10 seconds before I pushed my baby out. I had made it well known to the nurses in the room that I wanted delayed cord clamping. Dr Noble didn’t care. The baby came out and was put on my chest and he IMMEDIATELY clamped AND cut the cord, without even asking if the father would like to do it. He stole this moment from my family and it breaks my heart for my fiance. Stay away from this hospital, especially Dr Noble, if you have any type of birth plan. You will not be...
