This station is fine during the day but feels less safe during the early mornings and nights. There's a lot of people lurking ,they're not waiting for a bus/train, makes me wary.
There is no security to protect you.
Be sure to bring pepper spray or an alarm. Share your location with someone. Keep your headphones low/off. Be aware of your surroundings. Stay in the light.
Most bus drivers are kind and safe but there's like 5% bus drivers that are just creepy. Just be cautious.
For first time riders, there is a red ticket machine where you can get a paper ticket. It goes by zones. If you don't know what to get, click more information or help. It'll list the zones.
You can also use the caltrain app to buy a digital ticket.

FYI There is only 3 trains in the early morning and early evening that go from Gilroy to SF, vice versa.
