We used to be fairly regular customers because my wife loved their Jums Amberye bread, until she got one that was full of mold. Initially we couldn't see the mold because they keep the bread frozen and the ice covered the mold. Still, she did not give up on the store. The next purchase of her bread she found to be defective because the loaf fell apart when cutting which is not normal consistency for that bread. Although we are regular customers they would not offer a refund without her receipt. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and bought the same brand again, and again we had the same problem which turned out to be obvious upon inspection. This time we returned with the receipt and the cashier was ânot authorizedâ to give us a refund and said we needed to come back when the owners were there. Keep in mind itâs only a refund for a loaf of bread. When we insisted on the refund the cashier got on the phone and called the owner who finally arrived and after arguing for the next 20 minutes he finally gave in and provided a refund for their defective food product.
In the past I disregarded the expiration dates that were exceeded on their juices and the browning of their deli products due to poor storage but after this event we will not be returning. This deli needs to be inspected by the Consumer...
Read moreWonderful variety of eastern European foods. Labels printed in Turkish, Polish, Arabic are mystifying but intriguing. Almost everything we've tried has been very good.
Excellent meat department. Best prices anywhere on filet mignon, lamb shanks, smoked fish. Delicious unfamiliar sausages, smoked pork ribs (old fashioned bacon), etc.
Lots of beers from Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc, and the owner's recommendations of good ones to try have been very helpful.
Best olive prices anywhere. Bulgur, my new favorite grain, comes in 6 different grades, from very coarse to as fine as cream of wheat. Who knew? Yummy jams and juices, and the pomegranate molasses is a new staple at my house. Fabulous stuff, and the bottle is beautiful.
The produce prices are very good, though the quality is a bit uneven -- the poppyseed pastries at the checkout are delicious, crispy and not too sweet.
I love this place; it's a quick trip to a whole different part of the world. It's true that folks there tend not to make eye contact or smile, but I think that's just a cultural difference, nothing personal.
There are lots and lots of wonderful food discoveries to be made here; I hope more people discover it so that the...
