Meh. It's been pretty standard overall, as I'm sure most nursing/rehab places are. The physical therapy aspect has been really good so far but nursing has a lot to held accountable for. I really feel sorry for someone who has to live in one of these places and doesn't have any family to look after them. There's been some good nurses but for the most part we feel he's been neglected, because he has a colostomy bag. Hardly Any of nurses seem to want to deal with it. He gets told that it's going to get drained or changed only to be let down and family has to go down to the nursing station and ask what's up because nurses will say they're going to help him drain it or change it and then they just push him off to the next shift. Today I realized My father's colostomy bag had been leaking for some time. While visiting today I kept smelling poo and upon investigation realized he was stepping on his own crap on the floor by his bed and had poo all over himself in the area under his bag. After calling the nurse in to replace the bag and clean him up, I had to go in after them and clean him up some more because they didn't really do a very good job of cleaning him up. I still smelled poo, so I took a warm washcloth with some soap on it and proceeded to try to clean him up some more and found that they didn't really clean him up much at all. The washcloth that I used ended up brown with poo and he had dried up crusty balls of poo in his pubic hairs. And this is all on top of his stapled wound!!!!!!! So you know this could cause an infection. The nurse that had to attend to him today hasnt ever really seemed like she wants to change or drain a bag at all because she's been avoiding it the whole time he's been there. It's just really disgusting if you ask me. I had to get a social worker involved for the nurse to even really give a crap (LITERALLY). Thank God for the social workers, nurses that really care and the physical therapists! His nurse today just looks like she's totally angry and hates life. I can't wait till my dad...
Read moreBEWARE OF THIS PLACE I would steer very distantly of this God forsaken place....I had both my elderly parents admitted here after my Dad broke his hip. My Dad had a hip replacement and after being admitted to GCC, he developed a staph infection because the so-called, "wound care" specialist, didn't know how to care for a wound. She actually called me at home to tell me, "his wound is oozing, it's red and warm, what do you want me to do"???!!! I asked her why was she calling ME to ask what she should do. You need to call the Nursing Home physician and or send him to the ER??!! He had to return to the hospital via ambulance to The Emergency Room and AGAIN go under anesthesia and ANOTHER hip replacement and bed sores debridement. He also developed very large and deep bed sores due to GCC's negligence. He should have been turned more often and the bed mattress on the bed at GCC was very hard....not a good type of mattress to use for a bed ridden patient, especially after surgery and for a patient who required help in repositioning because he couldn't turn himself! Additionally, I made it ABUNDANTLY clear that my elderly Mother had a very sensitive blood pressure condition (taking 2 bp prescriptions) and that I wanted her blood pressure to be taken with the old fashion sphygmomamometer and stethoscope, not a manual wrist or other type of manual machine. The manual equipment are merely toys. Very shortly, after my parents went into GCC, I witnessed an aide using the manual wrist bp machine AFTER I TOLD THEM NOT TO USE THE MANUAL MACHINES!!!. Again, I VERY specifically told ALL the nurses (including the director of nursing and the asst. director of nursing), and the aides to make sure they use the sphygmomamometer and stethoscope before/after giving bp meds.....this order was NOT followed! I would NEVER recommend this horrid place to my worse...
Read moreGranbury Care Center is a wonderful place to work, recover from a recent illness/surgery in our top notch rehab-to-home program, or to call home as a long-term resident. As the social worker for the rehab-to-home residents, I work very closely with the physical, occupational, and speech therapists and have seen first hand the effort and dedication they give to ensure each person’s rehab experience is as rewarding and successful as possible. The therapists tailor the exercises to each residents’ specific needs, work around their time preferences and/or doctors appointments, and do an excellent job coordinating care with the nursing staff and social workers, so that each person may receive the medical and psychosocial services they need to be successful at home. Every staff member at GCC is there for the right reason - because they truly care about making a difference in the lives of our senior citizen and disabled population. GCC is by far the best skilled nursing facility in Granbury, and I am so thankful to work alongside and learn from the selfless, compassionate people who make...
