My husband and I were meeting friends in Granbury for an overnight getaway. The plan was to stay at the Inn on Lake Granbury, and as our friends had invited us for one night, they graciously planned to cover our room for Friday. In talking we decided to make it a weekend stay with us covering our own room for Saturday. Upon arrival we discovered due to a mix up in reservations, my husband and I only had one night (Saturday) reserved instead of two. (In the changing of plans, our sweet friend had forgotten to make our Friday reservation.) Cathy, the innkeeper, did make several calls to try to find us a room for Friday night as her inn was completely booked with no room for us. There were people checking in, and of course she needed to help them. However, it seemed clear she was frustrated in trying to help us. We ultimately found a lovely room at a place she hadn’t called. Cathy helped by inputting our info for the reservation on her computer so we wouldn’t have to use our phone and by printing the reservation paperwork for us. She also called ahead to the other inn to say we’d be coming. We arrived there before that innkeeper received the message.
Cathy offered to ask housekeeping to clean the room we were to be in on Saturday first thing Saturday morning so we could check in as soon as possible. We appreciated that, and it was helpful since we were moving between locations. We contemplated just staying at the other place both nights so we wouldn’t have to move, but Cathy was sure to let us know her cancellation policy was in force, meaning we’d be penalized further than just inconvenience if we went that route. The inn offers appetizers and wine every afternoon. Cathy sent those for us to enjoy on Friday with our friends in their cottage even though we couldn’t stay there for the night. That was very nice and appreciated.
The grounds of the Inn are lovely and well-manicured. It rained the entire weekend, so we weren’t able to spend time outdoors, but no doubt that would be very enjoyable in better weather. Our room was on the ground floor of the main house and had its own private entrance, adding convenience. It was clean and well appointed. However, the bed was less than comfortable to us. It was very firm and uncomfortable. It was technically two twin beds put together to convert to a king bed. I’m 5’ 8”, and even with my head at the very top of the bed, my feet hung off the end and touched the (cold) iron foot board. My husband is over 6’ tall was quite uncomfortable in the short bed. As was pointed out by the innkeeper in response to my TripAdvisor review, twin beds are shorter than king beds. Having never owned a twin bed (no children) and having never bought sheets for one, we had no idea that twin beds are shorter and simply went by the inn’s web site description of combining two twin beds to make a king. We assumed that meant a standard king bed; we’ll know not to assume in the future.
There was a nightlight in the bathroom that was a sort of flashlight, and it was quite bright and shone right at my head. I couldn’t sleep until I got up and unplugged it. Then the bathroom was very dark for the middle of the night trips, which was unsettling in an unfamiliar setting. Yes, we could’ve kept the bathroom lights dimmed (they’re on a rheostat), but that was brighter than desired.
Our room opened out into a common room where breakfast was served and snacks were kept. While it was a lovely area, the ice maker was literally up against our door, so we were awakened by other guests using it both early and late.
Overall it was a decent stay, and we did appreciate the innkeepers’ efforts on our behalf. However, the rates the inn charged seemed disproportionate for the offerings. Our friends said the same of their stay in the cottage. We love Granbury and will be visiting again soon. We’ll stay at a less expensive location. The lake wasn’t visible from our room here, but we felt we paid a premium for...

Check in - was a breeze. Maybe took ONE minute in the office. The super nice lady showed me where to park that was closest to my room then met my wife and I in the courtyard area and took us to our room. She gave us a thorough tour of our room.
The "common" area in the main house where our room was at has a small fridge stocked with cold drinks and bottled water. There is a coffee machine with plenty of cream and sugar. Also an ice maker and filtered water. And if you get the munchies there are some snacks as well (crackers, cookies, etc).
At 5pm - they hand deliver snacks to your room as well as a drink of your choice. I'm not sure what wine it was we got but it was really good and red :)
The POOL: My wife and I travel a lot on the weekends. This was the best pool I think I've ever been to. It has lots of seating choices both in the pool and around the pool. They have a cooler stocked with bottles of water to keep you hydrated. There is a waterfall going into the pool with seats underneath it as well as seats built into the sides and a shallow shelf that's about 6" deep to lay on if you want. There is a restroom next to the pool that has the pool towels. You can actually stand in the pool, rest your arms on the edge, and look out over the lake for an amazing view.
The Landscape and property: I'm not sure when this place was built but the words that come to mind are: Immaculate, pristine and perfect! The grass looked so nice and perfectly trimmed that I tried not to walk on it. Gravel lined walkway paths are all over the property and never seemed to be even have a piece out of place. I'm not picky at all but this place just seemed very well maintained. There are about 5-6 big, sturdy chairs that sit up on a hill overlooking the lake as well as a nice, big hammock. I didn't try any of that because I was in the pool looking at the lake :) but my wife liked them.
Our Room: It was called the Rio something (again not good with names). It was at the top of the stairs, first door on the left. It had a gigantic king size poster bed with 31 pillows (just kidding but plenty of pillows). There are lots of windows that look out over the property with easy to close blinds if you want some privacy. There's a small desk/chair with a power strip to plug in all of your electronic devices. I actually liked this. Most of the time my phone is right on the nightstand next to the bed and it seems to distract me. It was actually blessing not having it right beside me. Off the side of the bed is a sitting area with two comfy chairs and an ottoman to put your feet on, plus a small balcony door you can open and let some fresh air in. THE BATHROOM was another treat. Ours had two sinks, seperate toilet area and a GIGANTIC shower with a seat. Plus all the hot water you'd want. And there's body wash, shampoo and conditioner that actually smells GREAT.
Location, Location, Location: Sits right on the edge of the Lake Granbury. Hence the name, Inn on Lake Granbury. You can EASILY walk to downtown area in mere minutes. No need to drive.
Mosquitos, flies, dragonflies and butterflies - We visited in mid July. I did not see one fly or mosquito. I'm not sure how they arranged this...maybe it was the constant breeze off the lake..not really sure. I did see lots of dragonflies though. Love watching them surf on the wind currents.
Now for the Bad.......The ONLY bad thing I can say about this place is that it's about a 3 hour drive from home. I know I'm going to want to come back again and again! I've saved it as a favorite place to visit. And I usually reserve that for the very best places we've traveled. Can't wait...
Read moreClose enough to the DFW area, yet far enough away for a relaxing retreat in the "country", gracious owners/innkeepers Jim Leitch & Cathy Casey, and staffer extraordinaire Deborah R. treated our large family and friends group like VIPs, granting our every wish during our three night stay in June 2013.
The rooms at the Inn are "Old world meets Texas Traditional" décor, with each room having its own distinct personality. Besides staying in a room that looked like it was torn from the pages of a Southern Living magazine, sleeping on the Inn's beds were like sleeping on a cloud mattress spun from angel's hair.
They served the most delicious hot breakfast I've ever had at a B &B, with menu items like: Pineapple Stuffed French Toast, Peach Enchiladas, Southwestern Hominy, cheese and green chili grits, along with more traditional fare such as: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, fresh mixed fruit, yogurt, and a variety of juices. Nightly "Happy Hour" is equally as impressive, with more than just chips and salsa. One night, we enjoyed spicy asparagus spears, sausage pinwheels, and goat cheese topped with spiced pecans and wild honey, accompanied by a variety of wines and soft drinks
Spectacular views of Lake Granbury with crushed gravel paths traversing through lush landscaped lawns and past flowerbeds. A tree swing, Adirondack chairs, and stone benches welcome you to spend time contemplating the beauty of nature that's all around the property. A salt water swimming pool with its cascading waterfall creates a wonderful oasis, with a sparkling clean restroom and fresh pool towels only steps away.
Toiletries provided by the innkeepers aren't your run-of-the-mill stuff. Rather, they provide the upscale Cali Cosmetics "Tarocco" line of blood orange products - shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, bar soaps, and moisturizer that smell heavenly.
Granbury's historic downtown square is an easy walk from the Inn, and offers lots of shopping, food, and...
