I'd love to give the store 5 stars for the contents of the store itself, which are well-curated for the Grand Valley area, but given the way I was treated like a criminal the last time I visited, unfortunately, I won't be visiting again. I was enjoying my first postpartum shopping session after the birth of my second child until I noticed I was being followed by not only a uniformed security guard but also various other store associates. Being that I have a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and am a career criminal defense attorney with a 13+ year career spanning three different states, of course, I recognized the signs of being treated like a suspicious person almost immediately. When "Joyce" came over to me a second time and basically demanded I hand over my potential purchases so she could hold them behind the counter, I laughed and instructed her to just ring up whatever I had at the moment so I could leave. Joyce behaved nervously while ringing me up, as if though my credit card would be declined, and was then visibly surprised when it wasn't. Unfortunately for Dillard's, I would have spent even more than the $900 or so I did spend that day but for being forced out of there early like a criminal, but I'm sure they'll be ok.
A caveat - although I am a very white person, I am the very dark-featured kind of Sicilian/Italian, and in certain places (like Mesa county) sometimes mistaken for a POC - this is not the first time I have been followed around a store like I'm going to steal something, and it seems to happen more often when I have a tan and not dressed in business professional clothing. So if you're thinking of going to Dillard's but also have issues with being followed like you're going to steal something in majority-white places, perhaps online shopping would be the most pleasant...
Read moreWe’ve been to Dillard’s three times. You nearly have to rate the store department by department. Our experience in home goods was pleasant and the associates were helpful. We bought six very nice bath sheets. However, based on our interactions with the sales associates in the women’s purses, mens watches, mens fragrance’s and women’s cosmetics, those sales associates need to remember, they aren’t in Beverly Hills and treat all customers with respect and attention. Answering your cell phone and walking off to have a chat, then moving to the counter to socialize with your coworker, never returning, guarantees you will not make that sale. This actually happened yesterday 11/23/21 while we were looking at LV purses and handbags.
At the watch counter we made a couple of laps around it just generally looking. When a couple watches caught my eye to try, the sales rep approached but didn’t know much about the brand nor the products. When I removed my watch and tried on the others she made some negative comments about other brands Dillard’s doesn’t carry, like Bulova or Citizen. Considering I had just laid on the counter a Bulova Precisionist, which may not be considered a Luxury brand, but a very high quality time piece and from my perspective a better crafted watch than the Tissot’s I was trying, I was put off by her comments.
So, stay off your cell phones, don’t abandon customers without cause or explanation and don’t knock or insult customers products and attire they may be wearing or comparing to items on display in...
Read moreThe employees here are extremely rude and judgemental. I went in to buy my mom a present. I picked out a few items and when I finally got someone to help me she took all the items out of my hand putting them behind the register each time; anything I picked out would be removed from my hands and put back. I finally asked “what kind of extras would you recommend I throw in with her gift?” Which she proceeded to very loudly yell “are you asking me for free stuff?” With a smirk on her face. I said “no I’m asking what kind of extras should I buy?”. I’m spending 300+ for a few items and getting a gift for my mom if I ask for freebies for her to try to see if she likes them before commuting to a whole bottle of said product how is that something to try and shame someone about? She apologized shortly after I paid but that was the first time I bought from them. Everytime before and after when I’ve walked in I have employees glaring at me or whispering about me and my family. Most recently we bought a pair of pants and the lady was rolling her eyes and making snide comments every time she could. We all live in grand junction; and the majority of us don’t use an employee discount to buy our items. Don’t act snobby when you could very well be my neighbor and chances are the majority of us paying customers make more than the employees do. Ridiculous attitude. Won’t be bothering to spend my money...
