Field's Fabrics — Local services in Grand Rapids

I've shopped at Fields for 25 years and today may have been my last visit. When I entered the store at 5:15 I was immediately told by the two customer service women who were just standing around (obviously waiting to leave) that I only had 15 minutes to get what I needed. Now, it's not like it's a restaurant where I was showing up expecting to have a 2 hour sit down meal. They made it obvious that their main goal was to get out of there at 5:30,(Which one of them even said to me).They did help me and worked together to get me what I needed and I left at 5:28, but the atmosphere was uncomfortable and very off-putting from a customer's perspective. I felt like I was just an intrusion that was getting in their way. I've worked retail for many years and would never treat someone like that, even if it meant I would stay after work a few minutes to help them. If you're open until 5:30, that means a customer can walk in at 5:29 and expect to be helped. Please teach your staff to be nicer to people when they come in. If I'm unreasonable, let me know and I will respond...

I have been a customer since1970. All those years ago. It never changed!! Always the best fabrics at the best prices. I purchased the fabric for my daughters wedding dress in1986 and I started buying fabric for her layette in 1970.and in 1988 even opened my own store Called classic custom Shirtmakers and tailors on 28 th street. We sold custom suits and shirts for men. Plus we made wedding dresses and did all kinds of alterations. We continued to use fields fabrics through all those years. If looking for discount material it's in a whole other building be aware !! They have a great selection of materials. Women in the discount building are very nice. BUT !!!! If you have a child with you, make sure nothing is touched by them in the main building because they will be rudely told to dont touch things and make sure you put that back !!!! not just one but two women in the main building made a point to walk by and tell my granddaughter this !!! ! "With me standing 2ft away from her !!!" All she was doing is looking at material to make her a dress. Won't go back to this store !!!! Will go to Plainfield store where my granddaughter...
