Great White Fish Chicken — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

DO NOT GO HERE! THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS HORRIBLE! On November 7, 2023, my sister and I went to "Great White Fish & Chicken'' at 4200 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. We bought $93.00 worth of food. 3 pounds of our order was fish; clams, shrimp & perch. When my sister was handed the order at the counter, she saw that the little brown bag they gave us, with the wadded up napkins in it, only had 4 tartar sauces! When my sister asked for more tartar sauces for all of the fish we ordered, an older, EXTREMELY RUDE man stepped up and told my sister that it would be $0.25 each! My sister calmly said, "are you kidding me, we just spent almost $100.00 on food, and you are going to charge me for extra tartar sauce?", the rude man went on to say "that is what it costs, and then started to walk away, while he was talking to my sister over his shoulder. He was basically raising his voice saying "I don't care, you pay for extra sauce", then, coming out from behind the scene, a younger version of the rude man, clearly his son, began to say "DAD!", the young man had to have said his name at least 2-3 times, finally the EXTREMELY RUDE man yelled, "stay out of this, ARE YOU GOING TO PAY FOR THEM?" The courteous and respectful young man said "YES", then the rude father, turned to my sister, and in a seething and sarcastic tone, said "FINE, HOW MANY WOULD YOU LIKE MA'AM?" My sister had had enough at this point and told the rude father, "you obviously don't care about your customers, and clearly have no regard for providing them with good customer service. If I was at any other restaurant, and spent this much money, they would have accommodated me, and furthermore, you treat your customers like they are beneath you, and you speak to them extremely disrespectfully! The rude father basically started to argue back, and convey to take it or leave it! Once again, the courteous son said "DAD!", but this time, my sister interrupted and said to the nice young man "it's okay Hun, he needs to hear this", and continued to tell the rude father about himself. At the end, the rude father told my sister to get out, and never come back! In a matching tone, my sister replied and said “oh you don’t have to worry about that! On the car ride home, my sister told me, "we are never going back there again, this is unreal. And the clincher is, he thinks he's right!”

So there you have it folks. Our final visit to that hell hole of a take out fish & chicken joint, was outrageous and terribly disappointing. ANYONE who reads this review, and patronizes "Great White Fish & Chicken" at 4200 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Please pay attention to how you are treated. This man owns and operates a business that seems to mainly serve a certain population in that area, (and I think you know what I mean), with that said, I'm sorry to say this, but HE HAS ZERO RESPECT FOR YOU! It is clear to my family and myself that this establishment DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE IT SERVES. In our opinion, that is 100%...

I used to frequent this restaurant often. I moved from the area, so I haven’t visited in a year or so. I ordered through the app. When I arrived, the kid at the counter seemed unsure if my order was the one sitting half wrapped on the counter behind him. I asked because the pan looked pretty loaded for it to be a 20 piece whole wing order. He assured it was mine. After handing over my card, I look at the order, & it’s a bunch of thighs and drumsticks. I told him that’s not what I ordered and he calls another worker over. They advised me to wait, and they will remake my order. Mind you, I have other items. in the bag as well. So I oblige,even though I have my young children with me. I sat & waited 30 MINUTES. 30. The owner was present. I never got an apology, a remake of the rest of my things, not even an offer for a refill of my drink(which was gone after sitting & waiting). So not only did I have to wait way longer than expected, I had to reheat the cold fish and fries, macaroni and yams. Everything tasted disgusting, except for the wings. I was extremely disappointed to say the least & I will never return. The least I could’ve gotten was an apology. $52 down the drain....

Overall good experience I would get again. I phone called my order and was on time to get it. The food is very good and delicious. The only thing I have for a reccomendation is to train the staff in better customer service skills. When placing my order on the phone, the women taking my order spoke so softly I could hardly hear her. I get that she might be shy but honestly I need to talk to you if you are taking my order over the phone. When I arrived to get my food, the guy packing the food was friendly and greeted me but also, never ran me up and handed it off to the women who took my phone order to handle as she was running the register. This is fine, but as the customer I was not fully aware of what was going on and left in confusion for a moment. He also spoke soflty and was shy, and clearly had ear buds in. Probably okay since he's back of house, but if you are greeting customers maybe it's best to not have distractions going on.... As I said food was great, I will go back, but management should work on ironing out some of these basic things with their staff to make things run smooth and focus on...
