My son recently got into trading football cards. Our first experience was pleasant, the manager was friendly and helpful, however, I found it odd that he didn't have any prices listed on his inventory. I attributed this to the fluctuation of the market and his willingness to "work with us" on the pricing. Having not been in the trading card market for a while, we trusted his prices were fair. We ended up getting a binder, sleeves and several packs for what I felt was a reasonable price. My son recently visited the shop again with one of his friends and came home with 3 cards he got to pick out for $10. I asked him to look the prices up to see if he got a fair deal. We could only find 2 of the 3 and the value ranged between $5-$6. I called the shop to ask if they could look up the value of these three cards and was given a total "selling" price (not current book price) of $7. In my opinion, my son was not given a fair deal. If anything, the person who sold him the cards should have let him know that he could select $3 more worth of cards. I will not likely be back to this shop. Friendly and helpful, but I don't get a good sense that their "fairness" is consistent. It may have been an honest oversight, but it seems fishy to me that nothing (individual cards in the case or packs) has pricing on it. I used to work at a card shop when I was a teenager and we priced every individual pack and updated prices on individual cards weekly...it can be done! It sends a message of honesty...
Read moreAmazing shop with great customer service, I don't usually write reviews but Brandon Hindman's review was so OFF BASE I felt like I had to to protect the integrity of this great shop who has been in the area for over 25 YEARS. These guys are always as helpful as can be and will always work with ANYONE on the prices in order to be most fair. The 3 for $10 boxes are for kids mostly and they usually lets the kids just trade from those boxes all the time. The fact that Brandon was upset his cards supposedly only sold for $7 is a clear indication of his ADMITTED lack of knowledge of the hobby. There have been many times kids get cards out of those boxes that are worth more than $10. The guys at SMP love the kids and would do anything to make the card shop visit more enjoyable for them. Any kid that buys something is allowed to change their mind and take their cards back for a FULL REFUND. Im sure if Brandon would have called SMP with his issue they would have worked out something. I myself have had BUYERS REGRET on certain occasions and SCOTT (owner) would always greet me with a smile and joke and give me a full refund. The hobby itself is a gamble and prices fluctuate like the stock market. So hopefully Brandon will read this and get a better understanding of how...
Read moreI picked back up this hobby when I realized how game-changing this became. Up until yesterday, I had never attended a LCS or even a card show. Now, it looks like this place is my new destination, and hopefully on August 11th I will attending my first card show.
As for the products and collection, this place has it all. Hobby packs sold straight from the box, hobby boxes, single cards that are either graded, top-loaded, sleeved up, mystery packs for each popular sport, etc.
My first trip brought amazing fortune. From my 2020 diamond kings hobby box I snagged a Jacob DeGrom quad relic, and then a landed my first redemption card!! J.D. Martinez gold holo autograph; super stoked about that one. As for the 3 2020 topps archive signature series(retired player), I landed a 198 Rollie Fingers /50, 1992 Jose Canseco /13, and a BIG hit of 2000 DUAL auto of Pudge Rodriguez & Johnny bench /10!!
I am looking forward to another excursion to...
