Big Y — Local services in Great Barrington

My response to the fluffy corporate liability language provided below: I find your commentary slightly dismissive of the pandemic we are currently living in. The grocery store immediately adjacent to Big Y GB's parking lot does not allow customers to enter their establishment without a mask. Big Y alone has the ability, and legal right, to prevent someone from entering their business if they are not wearing a mask to prevent them from touching/breathing on all of the produce/groceries. If you have any social accountability/consciousness please kindly decline service to maskless shoppers and/or offer an employee to shop for those people claiming a medical exemption so they do not continue to enter your store and expose staff and patrons to COVID19. On 11/21 your manager Steve actively advocated against taking any action as it pertained to a maskless shopper despite several observed customer complaints and a handful of hostile encounters between the maskless individual and irate patrons. The lackadaisical approach of your corporate policy and the Manager Steve last weekend could have at best lead to a physical altercation as emotional temperatures rise regarding the virus and, at worst, contributed to a super spreading event. I strongly suggest you not hide behind legalese/PR statements like the one below and actually do something proactive for the community you allege to stand behind, support, and protect.

It may be unnecessary to point out the hypocrisy of the Big Y mission statement but in case you need to be reminded it reads..."Our goal is to exceed our customers' evolving expectations by constantly seeking better ways to create and deliver World Class...

For some time Big Y was better. This Great Barrington location has been going downhill for quite some time now though. When shopping for specific items that I regularly get, I will usually see the layout look worse than what you would see at a Dollar Tree (nothing is in front of the correct price/shelf tags). I also find that the product rotation is horrible. So for the customers thinking that the fresher product is going to be towards the back, don't count on it. Just quickly browsing to grab the few items that I need I find expired stuff all the time. What really gets me is that this store does not abide by Massachusetts pricing laws for grocery stores. M.G.L. CH.94 Sect. 184c, subsection I is all about the mispricing, wrong price on sticker/shelf tag/price scanner/register/ etc. If it's not fixed at the register and you have to go to the service desk to get it fixed, the first item is free if $10 or less, Ii over $10, you get $10 off. Other factors could come into play, but when an item is priced at $4.69 and rings up at $6.29, first one os free and the others are $4.69. The assistant manager at this location will not follow this law and is typically very snide about it. Hos admitting there was an error will hurt two things, his ego and his bonus. Now I find there to be lines longer at the registers than at stop lights. After all of that, what really gets me is the how rude and obnoxious the assistant store manager is. Large selection of organic vegetables competitively priced. Large selection blue cheese, brie, goat cheese, smoked cheese and more. Large selection of artisan breads, Stonewall Kitchen items and local jelly, jam and pies. The bakery has a large selection of baked goods in a clean well organized glass case. The seafood department has a good selection of fresh fish at good prices....and $5.00 Sushi Wednesday is always a nice treat the floral department is well organized and has a nice selection of plants, floral arrangements ,herbs, trees, etc. Checkout can be slow, but staff is friendly and they do have a self checkout section if you want to use that. An in store pharmacy is convenient. Some prices in general could be a bit better at Big Y, but they do have a nice store with many items you can't find at other...
