One Mercantile — Local services in Great Barrington

Most (if not all?) items are cruelty-free, fair-trade, women-owned, for social-good, sustainable, and/or local. The owners don’t mention it much but anyone can look into the products or brands and see this! Just amazing. My favorites are the 100% linen items from Europe, the female-owned local handmade jewelry, and the (also pretty local) sustainable bees wrap to keep food fresh. One Mercantile profiled a woman of color (a rather established woman, at that) who was looking to purchase a candle, and accused her of stealing it. Then, after it was proven that it was exactly in the place where she left it, rather than apologizing for their huge, humiliating mistake, they decided to shame her in front of the other patrons. This kind of racial profiling NEEDS to stop. Let's all band together and stop supporting businesses that practice racism like, One Mercantile....

Tourist shop that sells Cost Plus World Market products at 500% markup. Better off shopping Cost Plus or Target for all your tchotchke needs. Oh, also they racially profile African Americans, then have the nerve to VICTIM STANCE, claiming they’ve been brutally robbed of scented candles and small ceramic goods in the past. They are working through the trauma of it all by racial profiling and offering non apologetic apologies. I give them 5 stars out if 5 stars...
