I've purchased soco creamery I've cream pints in the grocery store, and found them to have some real stand-outs. For example, their pumpkin (pie?) flavor is phenomenal.
But in the creamery shop itself, I got a mint chocolate chip cone, and found it to be disappointing. The ice cream is very dense and heavy. The flavor was pretty bland. The price was very high.
Their portions are huge. I went for a kid's size cone, because I wanted a small treat. They piled it high, which might appeal to some, but with an epidemic of obesity in this country, I find myself annoyed that I can't even order an actually small sized portion for me and my kids.
I ended up throwing a bunch of it away because it was too much, and not worth the calories. Give me half as much for half the price, and I'd be happier.
Still, this ice cream is unusually heavy. That works fine for some flavors, like pumpkin pie which is naturally a custard-like experience. But flavors that would do well with less bulk just leave me feeling gross, like I've over-indulged.
The staff was friendly, but the place was crowded, and really not at all cozy. Even the limited outdoor seating was spoiled by the narrow sidewalk and heavy foot traffic.
In brief: not a great ice cream parlor experience, but do give their pints a try, as some of their...
Read moreI have been here several times now, at different times of the year, and I don't think it is worth the price. The ice cream is quite good, but not $5-for-one-scoop good. When paying this much for ice cream, which I have occasionally done, I expect it to be great. There are interesting flavors and the texture of the ice cream is lovely, but the service detracts from the experience. If I had had one negative experience, it wouldn't bother me so much, but I have had a less-than-positive experience every single time I've been here. Each time I've gone here, I entered the store smiling and left feeling confused and somehow vaguely insulted. Some of the staff are rude. Others seem apathetic. None who have served me are just simply professional and friendly. I don't expect 5 star service in an ice cream shop, nor do I expect the server to become my new best friend, but I'd like to leave the shop without feeling like they'd really rather I never come back. I'd rather have perfectly acceptable, non-fancy ice cream, served with a pleasant attitude. Ordering and eating ice-cream should make your day...
Read moreFelt very unwelcome ... SoCo was going to be the cherry on top of our evening, but it turned out to be the jagged shard of cone that jabs you in the roof of the mouth. My wife and I entered SoCo at 8:46 after a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant. We thought it would be fun to go to SoCo instead of staying at the restaurant for dessert. We were wrong. After paying $5.75 for a single scoop with sprinkles, we sat down. Moments later, from across the room a young woman called out to us specifically, "It's 8:52 and we close at 9, so, I'll give you those 8 minutes but then I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Wow. You'll give us 8 minutes? You're going to have to ask us to leave? Taken aback, we decided to leave right away. Outside, we wondered why we were paying such a premium to be treated so shoddily by a teenage bouncer. We didn't even want to finish our very expensive ice cream. Lesson learned: next time we'll happily stay at the restaurant for dessert. It's worth it to be treated with courtesy, respect, and...
