I visited Blast on July 21st and purchased two Pokémon packs, as shown in the image below with their clearly marked prices. After checking my receipt in the car, I noticed the prices rang up differently than labeled, so I went back inside to ask the employee about the discrepancy.
He told me their Clover system automatically adjusts prices due to sales tax and that there was “absolutely no way to change it or get around it.” I then pointed out that the receipt showed sales tax added again at the bottom, not just on the individual items, which didn’t make sense.
I also mentioned that I’ve used Clover for over 9 years and offered to take a look at the system to help resolve the issue. Instead, he brushed me off and said, “bring cash next time and this won’t happen.”
The total before tax should have been $191.49, with an additional $13.40 in sales tax. Instead, I was charged $48.46 more than expected, with no valid explanation provided. This was a frustrating and unacceptable experience. It would be nice for a manger/owner to contact me.
7/23/25 I am writing in response to your recent communication. I must respectfully state that your explanation does not align with the conversation I had with your employee at the time of purchase.
Furthermore, I would like to bring to your attention Florida Statute § 501.0117, which was amended earlier this year. As you may be aware, while businesses in Florida may impose a credit card surcharge, that surcharge must reflect the actual cost of processing the transaction and may not be inflated beyond that amount. I contacted Clover directly and confirmed that the maximum processing fee does not account for the $48.46 excess charge I incurred.
In addition, Florida law mandates that any such fee must be clearly disclosed to the customer both verbally at the point of sale and in writing on the receipt. In this instance, no such disclosure was made verbally, and the receipt I received does not itemize or identify the surcharge as...
Read moreI understand places need to profit to keep their businesses running, but this place overcharges people for sealed sets and single cards. For example, Pikachu SIR for Surging Sparks is only worth $342 ungraded, this store is selling it for $500. That’s almost a 50% profit.
That makes no sense because they claimed they used TCG Player Prices for their cards. Nothing in this Store is TCG Player Prices.
Journey Together Packs went down to $5-6.50 per pack - not $10 like this store. They also sell Journey Together ETB’s for $90 - I only paid $58.85 for my Journey Together ETB from a 3rd party seller on Walmart. I also see them for $65 on Tik Tok Shop with Free Shipping.
I went in to sell my Cards, their behavior was truly sketchy and I could easily tell they were trying to take advantage of me. I’m a grown adult - I’m not stupid and I know you would probably submit my cards to get them graded so you can profit even more off of my Cards. I already caught a Card Shop that did this to me recently.
I looked up the value of my cards prior to entering this store and I always pretend that I don’t know the value of my Cards because I have to test people to see if they’re going to give me the respect I deserve, or if they’ll take advantage of me and succumb to greed.
This place failed to respect me and I walked out content with my decision - refusing to sell my Cards to them. They didn’t even offer me the amount of money that I needed to pay off my phone bill.
In total, my Cards were worth between $120-145 according to TCG Player & Price Charting. This store only offered me $60.
The fact that they tried taking advantage of me speaks volumes about this store - there are plenty of other better places to do business with. The Scamming from Local Card Shops...
Read moreI came in about a week ago as a friend told me about the place. I’ve been collecting for a hot minute and I understand that we’re back into the peak of scalpers and hoarders in the Pokemon world, thus the prices are skyrocketing. However, the pricing in this place is ridiculous. While they have a great selection of modern and vintage cards and have plenty of merch and other non-TCG items, some of the packs and boxes there are well over 2x and even some 3x the MSRP. I fully understand it’s a family business and a small business in an expensive area to run, but at the end of the day, you can’t be trying to make over 50% profit from these things. Prices fluctuate and with that comes fluctuating with it. I read in some other reviews that they don’t want to lose money from product prices dropping and keep their prices due to “waiting for the item to go back up in value”, but sadly, that’s just not how pokemon collecting works. the whole hobby is a gamble and an investment, and with that, you lose sometimes. you have to take those loses and put your prices at the fair 10-20% above MSRP value that people want.
I also want to make note of the customer service. I was in the store for a solid 30-45 minutes looking at EVERYTHING. i’m talking plushies, slabs, singles, packs, ETBs, etc. and not once was I come up to, smiled at, or even greeted. I was stared at by the employee half of the time and just made the whole experience feel like I was a burden being there.
Beautiful store, wonderful collection and setup, but needs to work on being more productive as a selling...
