This is more than just a consignment shop. Is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to advocating for sustainability and the reduction of unnecessary waste. Their mission, vision and values are literally embedded in the name of their organization. Taking used objects and items and looking for ways to repurpose them, whether it be through reselling, creating their own materials, or hosting artists to come in and make something that can live on with a new purpose, is the very DNA of reconsidered goods.
This organization also advocates and supports the Arts through their artist Residency program. Where artists get to to come in and make art out of the items or inspired by them. I am profoundly honored to be a part of their process. I was invited to be one of the six artists in their new residency program where I got to spend 3 weeks making artwork. I had created three statues that are now available for the public to add their stories on, creating a community mural and monument. I was also able to use their materials to create portraits of people in the Greensboro community that I've made a profound impact or are making a profound impact to this day.
I recommend this place for anyone who's looking for thrift stores or finding treasures amongst what some may perceive as trash. From vintage clothing from popular brands from back in the day to movies, DVDs and even records, this organization will likely have gems just waiting to be discovered. I also recommend this place for any artists that are looking for residencies to explore, experiment, or develop new bodies of work, themes or concepts for their creative practice. Lastly, I recommend this organization for other organizations to collaborate with when talking about sustainability of materials, but also the sustainability of resources that feed the creative talent and creative capital that is abundant...
Read moreI absolutely love this store and how they are continuing to keep the customer and staff safe during this continuing pandemic. I work in with disabled adults and they are immune compromised so it is great that I can go to ta store where they care about the communities safety. I feel so bad for the workers who continuously get berated by selfish people who refuse to care for the safety of others in the store. I have never had a bad experience here and they are so incredibly kind and caring. There are no laws being broken by requiring customers to wear a mask and only those who are selfish and hateful are refusing to do so when these workers are so kind. It literally costs nothing for a person to be a decent human being but unfortunately some still struggle with how to not be a terrible person to our frontline workers during these hard times. I have always loved how this store prioritizes the safety of our community while continuing to strive for educating the public on how to reduce, reuse and recycle in creative ways that help the planet....
Read moreThis was a great find!! However...WARNING if I get overwhelmed at Walmart, take a deep breath before you dive in! There is sooooo much stuff here! For all the things they have it is actually pretty well organized and somewhat easy to browse through! They have both a FB and IG page and will post new cool items that come in, but they go fast! If you are looking to get rid of things crafty and more think about donating here! They are a "well loved" supply store but are very reasonable on everything! Staff is very kind and helpful and there's even a store cat! His name is Wilson! If you are an artist and looking for inspiration this place would definitely be it! I wish they had one in Winston too that would be awesome. They carry fabric, buttons, beads, frames, containers, glassware, old photos, scrapbook supplies, old vinyl records, you name it...it's there!! Check them out, you won't be...
