My wife and I decided to rent 2 Boomerang E-Bikes for our 7th! ANNIVERSARY! And we had an absolute blast.
If you want the quick review, here it is! The staff was so kind and understanding. The pricing is very reasonable. Especially when compared to other activities. The bikes we used were pretty dang comfortable/ powerful. They offer you water before you begin. They give you a map of your surroundings and give very good instructions/insight on where to go/what to see depending on what you feel like doing. All around great experience and a must try!
Here's a little more in-depth! Where to start! Ok,
Booking: It was a breeze. I decided to call and ask tons of questions since we had never ridden E-Bikes before and they were so kind/patient and answered everything. It's hard to find good people who are patient these days. So if you have questions, definitely check out their website or call.
The bike we chose to ride: After talking over the phone with the store rep, we went with the Boomerang due to the seats being a little more wide/padded. I believe they mentioned most seats were, but they also had less padded seats for a more traditional ride (but who wouldn't want comfort haha). The Boomerang also features a step-through frame aka, that middle bar that you're used to hiking your leg over like you're about to ride a bull, it's lower to the ground. So stepping into the bike is easier for those wearing dresses, pregnant, and those who can no longer lift their legs so high....The bike had a decent-sized bag attached to the back of each bike which we were able to store our belongings in while we rode which was great.
Never ridden an E-Bike? Us either! But they do have a decent-sized parking lot and a nice wide part of the swamp rabbit trail that you can practice on before you take off on your journey. The staff did a great job of explaining how to use the bike. They were very patient. But keep in mind that you will most likely have to use your time to "practice." We took about 10 minutes to get the hang of it and then we took off!
The Trail: The Swamp Rabbit Trail is nice and reminds us of the Mt. Vernon Trail in D.C. We decided to head towards downtown to see the suspension bridge. It was a little more crowded and took some patience here and there. So, we decided to turn around once we hit the suspension bridge and head towards Traveler's Rest. That was the better way to go! It gave us ample opportunity to really get used to the bikes and try them out. If you have never ridden a bike/ E-Bike, you may have more fun heading north and avoiding the crowds as well. But both directions were nice either way.
What to do while riding? Well, most of the Trail was unbroken, paved, and somewhat shaded. There will be parts where you cross roads on crosswalks and such but for the most part, you can ride until your heart's content or until your time's up of course. There are also tons of shops for food/drink, grocery, and more along the trail. So at any point, you can lock up the bike with the lock they provide you and do some exploring! We wound up finding a neat pizza place near Travelers Rest that was very good for lunch. So whether you want to ride the whole time, or stop for a snack, or both, the option is yours.
Quick notes: Bring sunscreen. There will be times when the trail is not shaded. Bring a water bottle, the bike has a bottle holder. Be adventurous! And be kind to the staff.
There are not many businesses left that are willing to work with you and be flexible because life happens! And sometimes people have to cancel, and sometimes people are late. But it's when people take advantage of the business's flexibility and cause the business to lose money. So it is very understandable why businesses choose to have non-refundable policies and no flexibility, so please show extra appreciation to the business that still acknowledges that life happens and is willing to be...
Read moreIf you haven't rented an eBike, what you are your waiting for?🙂 My wife and I rented two eBikes during our visit to Greenville to traverse the Swamp Rabbit Trail between Greenville and Traveler's Rest, SC. The staff at Pedego Electric Bikes - Greenville was nothing less that stellar. We had a 10:00 AM reservation on a Sunday morning, so we arrived around 9:45 AM to get our orientation completed before our trek. Parking was a breeze, as there is ample parking where the bike shop is located. When we arrived, Laurel unlocked the door for us (as their opening time wasn't until 10:00 AM) and greeted us like we were family. She discussed the trail map with us, allowed us a restroom break, and provided a bottle of cold water. Next, Laurel provided a thorough orientation with us so we would feel comfortable with the operations of the bike. She also swapped out a seat post for my wife due to her short stature. We felt comfortable with our instructions and we were ready to hit the trail, an easy two-minute ride to the trail head. NOTE: The Sena bike helmets with Mesh Intercom and Bluetooth were a game changer. If you have two or more going for a bike outing, I highly recommend upgrading to these! We were easily able to communicate with each other (hands-free) during the ride, making for a safer and more enjoyable experience. We scheduled a four-hour rental, but I asked if we were out longer, would that be a problem? The answer was "definitely not a problem!" We were out an extra hour and the addition fee was very fair. We visited the Furman University campus, sat by the lake to enjoy watching the turtles and swans. In addition, we had lunch at Tandem Cafe in Traveler's Rest, SC for some inexpensive and quality food. We encountered a very nice couple on bikes who we spoke with for a while as well. Once we returned our bikes, Zach assisted us with getting everything our of the saddle bags and returning the bikes. Zach was a blast to work with as well. This was an amazing adventure thanks to Pedego of Greenville! We look forward to our next adventure!
Here are a few tidbits of information we learned during our outing: If this is your first time on an eBike, take a few minutes to "test drive" the bike in the parking lot prior to hitting the trail. Laurel was an AMAZING instructor and she will show you everything you need to know about the bike in an easy-to-understand format. It took a few minutes for us to become comfortable with the pedal assist and throttle. You will encounter walkers, runners, and bikers on the trail. As you will be trained by Pedego Staff, we always called out "coming on your left" when passing pedestrians and bikers on the trail. This "shout out" alerted anyone the person ahead that we were passing. Unfortunately, there are locals who will pass you at a high rate of speed without saying anything. Its unfortunate, but that is the reality. We received many "thank yous" from those who we alterted as to our intent to pass on the left. It will be temping to fly down the path at 20 MPH once you get accustomed to the bike. Its a blast, but be advised that the path has a few bumpy areas, although the entire trail is paved. Read all signs and adhere to traffic regulations. You will encounter several intersections where opposing traffic doesn't stop. We always took great care at the...
Read moreI have a 4 wheeler and a sxs and have drove many thrilling vehicles in my time on earth but let me tell you a how much fun my son and I had this afternoon on the swamp rabbit. This was both of our first time on a E-bike and we absolutely had a blast. We ended up having a flat tire up at furman but it was no fault of the bike or pedego as a company, it was just a little piece of stick that hit just right and punctured the tire. That stuff happens in life. What made a difficult situation so much better was the way the staff handled us when we called. I can’t remember the ladies name but she drove her truck to pick up the bike with the flat tire and drop us off another bike to drive back to the store on the trail. This was later in the afternoon so I’m sure it was not ideal situation for her but she was the sweetest person. I am not sure if she is the owner or a manager but she made us feel so good about the overall experience at this store. She is one of them people you just want to be around because of her amazing attitude. I wish I could remember her name but you won’t need it,you will know when you speak to her. Ok back to the review if I had a flat tire and still have such a glowing review of this place that should tell you all you need to know about my experience. My name is sonny baldwin I live in simpsonville so I’m not some bot generated message. Oh I do have one complaint ☝️ please put a tip jar out where people like me can show my appreciation for the effort given to my son and I this afternoon. To the sweetest lady that helped us ty so much for being kind. I really hope you have a great upcoming weekend. To the owner of this bike shop do not let that woman leave your store!!!!! She is the very reason I will be back so when you find amazing people like her take care of them. I am in the middle of a divorce so I needed a incredible afternoon, I got that and then some. Last comment and I will stop rambling. Go try Lewis BBQ that’s 1.6 miles from this bike shops. It’s...
