Volunteering at Share n Care
Im making this public so that rumors end. Mikayla has been a volunteer at Share n Care for roughly 9 years. She enjoyed being a cashier. A new manager was recently hired, and naturally things change, that is to be expected. However, there was an issue with a TV running with volume so loud Mikayla with sensory issues could not hear customers. She had asked for the volume to be turned down. She even turned it down. The volume went back up. She felt unheard. So I had explained to the manager as well still volume was kept up. This was requested several times by both Mikayla and myself. I asked a board member if the TV needed to be loud. I was told no. I also asked if new manager knew about the ADA federal law, again I was told no this board member was not certain if the manager knew. I asked for permission to talk yo manager to find out, I was given permission. When I contacted manager the conversation was brief and I tried to report back to the board member. I spoke to the spouse of board member who told me,the board was not going to be involved. I needed to let manager and my daughter work it out, that my daughter is a "big girl". Again I explained I was a guardian, and then there was some mocking of my place with my daughter. I said that was rude and conversation was ended. Manager called later made a time to meet. At the meeting, it was opened with prayer, I was read 1corithians 6: 1-8. Then I was told I'm not a good Christian because I brought up a federal law. He also told me the church is exempt from the ADA law. That he now felt I couldn't be trusted I was now a threat. I tried to tell him I was not suing a church. I just wanted to try to help my daughter as I'm her legal guardian. He said he prayed and agreed to turn the volume down from 13 to 11, which was Mikayla's request. In the meantime I was banned from volunteering, which I did to help my daughter from time to time. I was not to mention what was said to my daughter. But she was welcome to stay volunteering. With that a prayer closed the meeting. I went up hugged my daughter and left. I came back later to pick up my daughter, she was alone up front with a long line, I sat for a few minutes waiting for her to get through the line she had waiting. I then went back to get her lunch bag and manager and Bible worker, who are PAID by the church are in the kitchen area. I told manager my daughter had an appointment and someone needed to be up front. As we headed for the door the Bible worker apologized to Mikayla for purposely cranking the volume on the TV despite her requests. We then left for her appointment. Mikayla then told me the manager took her back and told her of the meeting he had with me. Sadly, Mikayla decided she was not able to take the stress nor did she like the way things were handled. She felt that the manager was trying to concur and divide for when the meeting set up it was to our knowledge for all of us not individually. We were also both told by the manager that volunteering at Share n Care is a privilege not a right. I see it reversed. For this store depends upon it's community for volunteers. For there are not many volunteers from their church...they NEED community help. I wish no harm for the store as it has been a blessing for many. Just beware if you decide to volunteer, the opinion of the new manager of...
Read moreThe people that work there, are so bubbly and friendly! I chit chatted with the girl at the register for about a half hour! Just so inviting and warm atmosphere! And the items that they have are one of a kind! For a second hand store, they have items from everyday use to those items that you only need one more to complete your set kind of thing. Definitely going back and recommending to others. You'll never know what you will find there and the prices...
Read moreI've been going to their store all my life, even at their old location from so long ago. Their prices are cheap and typically pretty reasonable. There's half price fridays every last friday of the month, so you can get that one or two things that were priced higher than you liked. Overall, it's a good place to go to save some money, especially if you can't afford...
