I really try to support local businesses, especially in our downtown area where unique clothing stores are already hard to come by. But unfortunately, my experience today was incredibly disheartening.
As an average-sized woman, I was browsing through the clothes when the staff member felt the need to walk up to me and say, "Um, these are our regular size clothes, but our plus size clothes are right here." The tone and wording made it clear that she didn’t think I belonged where I was looking.
I was shocked, laughed it off in the moment, and walked out—but honestly, it stung. I went in hoping to support a small business, and instead left feeling judged and unwelcome.
