So for 2 whole years you've been unable to find anyone willing to work there? Either you aren't looking hard enough or maybe you are not offering what is on par with other employers. If that's the case, then perhaps you need to reevaluate the work environment in your biz, or offer a competitive wage. The other possibility is that you got greedy when you found out you could do and offer less and still squeeze out more from the turnip. The turnip being your staff, your community, and those who travel a long way based on a long tradition and reputation you no longer uphold. What is even the point of hanging on to such a beautiful and historical space that means so much to so many if you aren't even going to fill it with those same people? I traveled all the way from Hanford to take my 3 yr old daughter there for her birthday. I wanted to give her her 1st old diner experience & was looking forward to her face when her very first banana split, bigger than she is, placed in front of her. When I found out we could not be seated I politely and discreetly begged the 2 employees to make a 1 time exception. They of course refused, which I guess they had to do, but it was with the heartlessness that they did so that got to me. I'll tell you, a banana split just loses its magic served in a styrofoam cup and rolled out by robotic staff. And as we dug in I had to ask myself was this "SUPERIOR" icecream or even as great as I remember? Or was it in all liklihood missing altogether what made it so? I think most will agree, it was the experience and the special memories associated with it that made it something we wanted others to have as well. That is what brought so many to your doors. If your heart just isnt in it anymore then pass on the reins to someone else. If its a financial issue, consider reaching out to your community. Im sure they would rally behind you. Because what you are serving up now just isn't the same thing and doesnt live up to the "Superior"...

An issue is that kids donāt want all the same flavor so I canāt get one for all to share, Iām spending 10$ per āsmallā ice cream for most of it to melt in the heat. And it all comes with the thinnest spoon man has invented to eat it with, that bends then breaks when you use it to eat ice cream.
Many others have posted, but thereās no seating inside, you have to take it to go and eat in the triple digit heat (when I went). Thereās signs everywhere saying ādonāt sitā while we waited in line for 40 minutes, and it just comes across as sort of rude and and unwelcoming.
Another issue is the cleanliness. They work out of the far section of the counter, but the rest is kinda grimy, with gallon bottles of various cleaning supplies out on display instead of in storage, dusty and corroded surfaces, and floors that were filthy since people are dripping giant portions of ice cream all over on their way out the door. The tables and booths were old and beat up but thatās not the issue, thatās just got old character and thatās fine. The place just really has the look that it isnāt regularly dusted, mopped, and surface cleaned.
Overall, I wanted to visit when months ago, we were doing family ice skating in Hanford and we saw people walking out with giant portions of ice cream and thought āwhatās that about?ā, so we decided to come back and check it out. If Iām being honest I wonāt come back. If it was just the price I might still because offset by giant portion which is interesting (even though who needs that much ice cream), but would be worth it to eat in a clean, but nice old ice cream and malt shop/diner setting at the window. But itās a one and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe made a special trip to Hanford just to have lunch at Superior Dairy. I had memories of coming here as a kid. Mistake, mistake, mistake! None of this is a reflection on the servers. They were polite and efficient, and were just doing what they were told. The problem lies squarely with whomever is doing the telling. This is a beautiful building in a prime location! Why still no dine in? Why is the floor so ugly? (But the ceiling is still FABULOUS) And the food that was sold to us. I don't even know where to begin. I was embarrassed for bringing my family here. Owner, you should be embarrassed for selling such nonsense. As others have said, the ice cream was good. The sandwiches? We got two little bags of Lays plain potato chips, two sets of two slices of dill pickles in a bag, and the sandwiches look like something a ten year old might make their little brother on a summer day. White bread with some pb&j slapped on it and sliced in half (ok, hard to fancy up a pb&j, but you weren't even trying) the turkey sandwich was just disgraceful. Some store bought deli slices, some mayo and a sprinkling of lettuce and tomato. I spent the whole ride home apologizing for this fiasco. It was too cold to eat in the park, so we ate in the car. This needs to change. Get some pizza, burgers and fries and great sandwiches (Black Bear? Quizno's style?). If you can't do that, then just give up the pretense that you are serving a meal, and just be an ice cream parlor. With indoor service and glass dishes like in the pictures. I cannot recommend this...
