Joann's Lounge Bar — Local services in Hawaii

A locals place that was a true gem. After a day of walking around Hilo was looking for a place to relax away from the crowds. Googled maps and found Joann's right around the corner. It is located in a small strip mall around the back. The bar in nothing fancy but was clean and well kept. The drinks were cheap and they have a good selection of apps. They have multiple large screen TVs on the walls (for sports).The most impressive part was how friendly the staff was. This is a Local's bar. They are friendly with a lot of aloha. If you are a Visitor remember this not a "tiki bar" or other tourist place. Respect the Locals and they will respect you. Good drinks and good food, especially the steak and fries. They take credit cards but cash is King here. Support local businesses it really does matter. We may have been the only table of haoles in the whole place. We had a good time listening to the amazing karaoke singers and enjoying the drinks and pupus. We even sang one song! The crowd was super about joining in for the chorus or call-and-response. The wait staff was amazing. After a fight broke out, the server turned to us and said "Welcome to Hilo!". Indeed!
