This place was just bad. I stayed at the connecting hotel for a week for class and ate at this place for the complementary breakfast and also had both a lunch and dinner here. Pros: - Complementary breakfast. We got one free breakfast for every night we stayed so it was nice to not spend money. - Nice and quiet. Never crowded in the week we were here. Cons: - The food here ranged from average to downright awful. The worst thing I had here was what was supposedly a crab and mushroom melt but what I got instead was four pieces of garlic bread with small shrimp and hardly any mushroom on it, covered in mounds of semi-melted mozzarella cheese and drenched in a ranch type sauce. Everything else was decent, but it was very inconsistent. One breakfast we had burnt bacon and some undercooked potatoes. Not great for a restaurant. - The staff reflected that of the attached hotel. They were very rude, not only to us but to many of the foreign tourists. One of the waiters (who I believed was fired) made remarks to our group saying, "Thank God a group that speaks English". - They charge 25 cents per takeout container. So if you wanted to get choice A of the complementary breakfast, you'd have to pay about $1.25 to get it to go. Overall, not a very friendly restaurant and the food you get isn't nearly good enough to make up for it. If you want to spend money here, maybe check out the nearby Ken's or the hamburger joint Millie's across the street.

Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! Coconut Grill was very close to our hotel so we decided to try it for breakfast one morning of our trip and we were so glad we did!! We loved the banana bread that is brought to the table..Delish! For our meal we ordered the Lilikoi French Toast, the Coco Moco, and the Spam Slam!! All were extremely good!! I cannot pick a favorite but one of my grandsons favorite breakfast on the Big Island was the Spam Slam, so much so that we went back the last morning of our trip! We also ate dinner at Coconut Grill during our stay in Hilo and it was equally just as good!! We had the Surf n Turf, The Kahuna Rib Eye Steak and the The Kona Fisherman’s Catch with Mahi! All were Delicious!! We loved the plating of the Fisherman’s Catch and the grilled pineapple was delicious also!! The wait staff were all very friendly and came around often with refills and to check on the table! We will definitely visit again if/when we return to Hilo!!

I brought my mom here on Mothers Day. The waitress was great. The food was another story. At first glance I thought it would be good. I ordered the rib eye tips, they were flavorless. There was barely any meat on the plate & about 5 pieces of that small amount was pieces of fat. My mom ordered the coconut shrimp plate. When it came out it wasn't hot. Both her rice & my rice was hard. Then there was a hard undercooked carrot & hard undercooked broccoli on her plate. I ate here a few years ago & it was great. The plate came out with steam & was delicious. We were so disappointed with the quality this time we decided to refuse our plates & eat elsewhere. For the price of the food we were shocked at how bad the meal was. If you enlarge the steak plate I drew Arrows to show the fat pieces that should have been steak. Also the pale tomatoes, they are supposed to be red. Highly disappointed. :(

X I used to like this place. But three months ago I walked in and sat down and waited 10 minutes and there were waiters there but no one ever came over and asked me if I wanted to eat something so I got up and left. I love the restaurant across the street but I'm a little tired of their limited menu so I decided to try one more time coconut Grill and I went there for dinner last night I looked at this salad bar and because it really didn't have anything interesting on it I decided to have a meal and I ordered what sounded good it was supposed to be sauteed beef and veggies over rice the amount of beef was less than half a cup and there was a little bit of pepper and 3 gigantic Scoops and very very old rice that have been kept in the kitchen for at least 3 days I asked him and despite my efforts with salt and peppe.r and soy sauce I was unable to elicit any flavor whatsoever from thedish there were only three people in the dining room I guess the word was already out and I just hadn't heard that they must have fired the chef and hired the old chefs girlfriends neighbors cousin. I told the waitress I could not eat it that the rice was old and Soggy and there was no flavor whatsoever in the tiny amount of sauteed something. I said I would get the salad bar and soup and was what was the soup and she said the soup was supposed to be turkey vegetable but that it was very bad that she had tasted it. I ordered that anyway and she was right about the soup I could have made something better with what I washed my dishes with yesterday and an over boiled zucchini. Zucchini was the only vegetable in the soup and the only meat in the soup was what you usually scrape off of the turkey when you're going to fix it for dinner the salad bar was worse first of all there was nothing substantial in the salad bar nothing to make a dinner of the macaroni salad tasted like straight mayonnaise the coleslaw tasted like straight and mayonnaise there was some greens some Can beets and one tasty dish made of slivered zucchini and slivered carrots in a relaxed and rice vinegar marinade but of course having purchased the $11 one pass at the salad bar I was not permitted to go and get another scoop of the one good salad dish. I will never ever go back to eat at the coconut Grill unless I read in the newspaper that they are under completely new management and have hired a chef. Terrible I shouldn't even give it one star. Really...

We are usually regulars at coconut grill. But will never go there again!! For my birthday ( Feb @27) my family and I went there and we were treated very very poorly from the start by supervisor name Scottly Wong and waiter James Rambatuli. First off we waited 1 hour just to be severed water, then our drinks finally came shortly after the water and was all spilt at our table before being given to us. Secondly according to Manager (Wong) Due to COVID restrictions family of 6 or more are not allowed to sit on rectangle table but families of 6 are allowed to sit on their round tables witch I found to be very odd I didn't know there is a difference of the shape of a table, we had made reservation of a family of 9, 1 week prior to the 27th so we wouldn't have a problem with seating so we asked her to please move us to the round table very rudely she said "NO" they are all taken knowing we had a family of 9 they should have reserved those tables. Because my boyfriend and I have three children she decide to put him and I on one table and 10 feet away put our children on the other table. We choose to move two tables near each other so we could sit together she decided to come to our table and move it back 10 feet apart, CDC guidelines say "we are to be 6 feet apart" My mother was moving the table her and her husband were sitting on a little closer my mother tired to explain to her that the table were way more then 6feet apart Wong decided to aggressively rip the table out of my mothers had (She is a 60 year old women). Instead of the "Manager Wong" try to explain to us and resolve the problem she decided to make the problem a lot worse yelling at us saying she will not serve us and we are all "86" other customers in the restaurant were in shock. I will be writing a letter to the owner of this restaurant to let them know what kind of management they...
