Family Fare Supermarket — Local services in Holland

Coming from a different market, it's interesting to find the contrasts in different grocery chains. I've yet to find a store with a soup and salad bar in this area, FF included. I should note that I mainly shop at a discount chain and come here for their coupons and sale items. I should qualify this further and this will be my central premise, FF's prices are high, much higher than the discount chain. One might presume for experience in other markets with other high-priced chains that there are things that make up for high prices, including soup and salad bars and upscale products and services. That being said, I just scratch my head when it comes to FF. It's a nice store (no liquor department), but its not nice enough to justify their relatively high prices, and I do believe they are owned by Spartan-Nash, which has more humble beginnings. Thus, FF presents a paradox, is it worth shopping there simply for their higher prices without the resulting perks of a high-end store. I would never ever EVER buy meat from here ever again. My mother bought a pork shoulder on the “managers special” which was marked down 40%, gave it to me to cook and it was rancid! It was within date, it smelled like fish and roadkill when I had it in the crockpot. The smell alone woke me up at 7:30 AM when it was due to be finished at 11:30. I live in an apartment building and even my neighbors could smell the abomination I tried to cook in my kitchen. If you wanna get sick this holiday season, buy their overpriced rancid meat.

PS their canned pineapple costs more than a whole actual pineapple anywhere else, this store is a rip!

Ok, so you decided to change things, well not working for me. You have a lady who properly fried chicken and CHICKEN WINGS, true Southern style, AAND u use to have them cheaply available in nice size containers BUT NOW, you millenialized your place and now they are GONE! IT WAS THE ONLY PLACE IN HOLLAND WHERE I, A SOUTHERNER COULD LOOK FORWARD TO, EACH WEEK TO GET IT. Then since I am 80 I looked forward to your place for discontinued, etc itens, and then you MOVED THEM from just inside frt door along w back section of store THEN with no sign at shelving back of store YOU CHANGED ITS LOCATION and put racks IN AISLE WHERE IF 2 PEOPLE WANT TO LOOK AT ITEMS THEY BLOCK THAT AISLE, DUUHHHH, BRILLIANT!
