I enjoy shopping at Jonkers. Every year I buy some Hotlips Salvia. It's one of my favorite plants and I can only find it at Jonkers. Well last week I went to look for some but I didn't see it sitting out. I asked someone if they had any Hotlips Salvia. They said that they did and it was in greenhouse 5 and they would go get some for me. I was glad. When the employee came she informed me that all the Salvia was being held for a guy who spends tens of thousands of dollars a year at Jonkers. I felt hurt. So because I don't spend as much money as this guy I can't have any Salvia? I didn't know that Jonkers discriminated. I also didn't know that Jonkers was a storage area for people. Most greenhouses will hold items but only for a short time. All I want was 6 or 7 plants. I gave them my phone number hoping that I could get some Salvia but apparently I don't qualify for any because I haven't heard from them. Sorry that I don't spend thousands of dollars but my money is still green and I also like Hotlips Salvia. I never had such a nasty experience...
Read moreLooked on the website at the interest of a friend and when I looked at the Facebook page, noticed that the garden had recently lost a Capuchin monkey in January. I wanted to leave a post regarding monkeys as pets. As I understand the Capuchin, Mingo was brought into the garden family many, many years ago during a time that many people did not have the information that they do now. I feel for the family that had Mingo as their companion, but also wanted to iterate that monkeys are not pets! I hope that after this encounter that the Jonkers family decides not to have any more wild animals in their garden. Monkeys are very social creatures with high intelligence, and being held captive in a place that is not an accredited sanctuary or zoo can be detrimental to their health and sanity. The gardens themselves are beautiful in their own right and do not need the captivity of an animal to make them more so. As a primatologist, I want to make sure that the patrons of Jonkers Garden know that monkeys and other primates should NEVER be...
Read moreI called numerous local greenhouses and no one had the verbena bonariensis I was looking for until I called Jonkers. When I called I was transferred to Mary Barbara. She was so helpful. Mary Barbara took down the information and said she would get back with me shortly. It was a super busy, "tulip time" Saturday!!! . Lo and behold she did and with great news. Jonkers had the variety of verbena I had been searching for. My husband and I drove over and bought the plants as well as many others, lol. I had a chance to meet Mary Barbara through another helpful employee and she took me to the plants I had been searching for.
As a first time Jonkers customer I can say not only does Jonkers have beautiful plants, yard art, etc. but they also have helpful, friendly employees such as Mary Barbara. You made my month Mary Barbara. Jonkers will be my go to nursery partly because of your incredible customer...
