The Homer Alaska area with it's port and harbor are a great place too go especially for persons or family's who are going too Alaska for the first time. The harbor it's self is an area were thousands of Salmon are released for the tourists and beginning anglers with several large charter boats right in the harbor for off-shore salmon and halibut trips. There's also some cool little shops that sell locally made items along with great little sea food restaurants. Read moreI have needed assistance twice in the last 24 years that we have had our 21' skiff in the harbor. One time, it got a tiny leak and almost sunk. They called to let us know and had brought a pump down to keep it from sinking. The battery had gone dead, so the bilge wouldn't pump out. The 2nd time was two days ago. I needed to get my boat out. But a health emergency with my husband required many ER trips. With a broken arm, I was next to worthless. Matt and his crew got my boat from the slip to the boat launch, and a friend volunteered to help me pull the boat and take it home! I went back to the ER.
