We made it—one full year with Yoga Room Hawaii, and what an incredible journey it's been!
When we first started on Mother’s Day 2024, admittedly, we had some preconceived notions: that hot yoga would smell bad, that we’d feel out of place, or be forced into something uncomfortable or judgmental. But all of that disappeared after just a few weeks. What we found instead was a welcoming, inspiring space filled with encouragement, growth, and positivity.
A huge shoutout to all the amazing 6am and weekend morning instructors! Your dedication, guidance, energy & fun have been a big part of our journey. We’ve now completed over 250 classes each—and as a couple doing this together, it’s become one of the most meaningful parts of our day. A time to reset, breathe and get our minds & bodies right.
Yoga Sculpt has become our favorite for full-body strength and conditioning but we also love the deeper focus on movement & breath, through HPF & 26/2. At first, we were in awe watching others move so effortlessly, but we’ve come to embrace the reminder that everyone’s path is different. And over time, we’ve seen real change: we’re more flexible (both in mind & body), stronger and with better endurance—and yes, we’ve lost those extra pounds too!
We drive in from Aiea to Kaimuki most mornings at 5:20am which might sound crazy to some, but it’s become a natural and worthwhile part of our lifestyle. If you're thinking about trying yoga—even if you feel "too old" like we did—just go for it! Yoga Room Hawaii makes it possible, and we’re so grateful for this space and community.
Thank you for everything, Yoga Room Hawaii. Here’s to many more years ahead! 🙏 Aloha,...
Read moreI really like Bikram yoga. So, I am biased. But, this is a great studio. I originally gave it 5 stars, but dinged it down a star when I remembered the parking fees. Then I put it back to 5, because I doubt they can do anything about that. But $3 a pop really adds up. If you love Bikram yoga as much as I do. (To be fair, maybe it's only $2 if you don't take an extra stretch or a shower after class.)
Anyway. It has 2 showers (women's) and lockers. They provide a soap or shampoo, which could be more foamy. So bring your own. Also bring a lock, or rent one for $1. The bathrooms/lockeroom is kept very clean.
The studio floors are not carpet nor wood nor pergo. Something better. (Wood is nice, but slippery, and it has to be cleaned immediately, so I wouldn't be able to get that little extra stretch in, or take a double svasana).
There are tons of class times available, all day. And there's a sister studio, which is awesome (I'd heard rumors of Pilates, and though it hasn't happened, I mention it here because, hint hint, that would be everything I could ask for, and totally make up for the mounting costs of parking.) And it gives variety to one's practice. Bikram Yoga is great, but it's important to have variety in life.
What else? A nice variety of teachers. The drill sergeant element seems to have come down a lot, which is nice. Hot yoga is hard enough. Though I miss the teachers who hold every last second of the pose and keep the heat up and the doors closed most of the time. I guess I'm in the minority for wanting that. (I always make it to the end of class, so may as well get the most out of it!)
Overall, quite excellent. Highly...
Read morePricey, but great instructors and great studio. Yes the classes here are on the more expensive side for yoga, but I've found that most studios that charge this rate tend to have far more qualified instructors. I've had classes with several of the Bikram and Vinyasa instructors and they are very attentive and really help you get into the right posture. They are also tough, which I LOVE, they're not the "I'm just going to sit here like a broken record and tell you the postures and you can do what you want because I'm afraid to lose customers if I push you too hard." They are encouraging, demanding, and inspiring, everything yoga should be. Another thing that sets them apart from many other yoga studios, is the instructors can actually to the postures... well... So if you need a demonstration, they can do that for the visual learners and it really makes a difference.
Finding free is difficult, but at least the parking lot isn't too expensive. They do have showers (with soap and shampoo!) and lockers for you to use.
My only complaint is on a couple of their policies, like if you miss a class, they still charge you. And typical protocol is if it is your first time, the studio will lend you a mat for free, and then it's $1 or $2 after that... Here they charge you $4! to rent a mat, even if it's your first time coming in... I find that steep, especially considering what you're paying for these classes. So to save you money, buy a mat somewhere else (it will cost you a lot less) and bring it in (with your towel and water) every time!
But, all in all, I would highly...
