We left serenades/sonata west because of very dirty conditions, extremely short staffed and moved to the Blake of Hamlin. The building exudes an upscale aura and they make you feel you will receive the highest quality care for this memory care facility. I have 16 straight years of experience with Alzheimer's and memory care facilities unfortunately. This Blake of Hamlin makes the dump we left look luxurious and the poor care we received at Sonata feel satisfactory. I had cameras in my family members room and the negligence was horrifying. They had no idea where my loved one was for 14 hours! I found him still in bed on my camera the next day at 11:30 am and went straight there and found him in disgraceful conditions. I was told by "agency nurse" which is pretty much all they have is agency staff, though was told they use low % of agency- another lie, but she told me they had no idea where he was! He has been moved the day before to a new room which obviously the lame unprofessional manager, Rebecca failed again on how the staff is to communicate such important information. The manager Rebecca never acknowledged my email correspondences of this particular incident along with another the day before where I shared sweet Ruthie was in my loved ones bed for 4 hours the night before! They never do 2 hour bed checks as they will tell you..obviously they did not check in on Ruthie either or they would have found her in a man's bed! I could go on and on how disgusting the rooms are and the maintenance man cleaned our room, the cna one of the few good ones cleaned his room and my private care giver had to clean his room. On my cameras in 3 months I show no cleaning staff going in his room nor did I ever see a cleaning cart. The laundry all smells like urine. The bathrooms up front where we can use were so nasty I told them to lock the doors and not let anyone in there till they are cleaned! They stayed locked for weeks! They never woke my family member up by 8:30 as requested numerous times. Then I would get there between 9:30-10:30 so many times would get him ready and always told kitchen was closed so he could not get breakfast. The maintenance guy made his breakfast the week we left. The cna staff called me crazy because I flipped on them multiple times with these conditions. They can't keep staff. Agency workers have no accountability and they don't care and left my Fm on the floor after checking on him 6 times! I could go on and on. Hopefully in the coming weeks I will share this on the local news. Do not be fooled by the luxury looking facility it absolutely sucks! They also lost an individual on the AL side I heard from staff. He actually took an Uber and was gone for quite a few hours! They were actually looking for him in the pond behind building and we're in panic. Yet when no one could find my FM for 14 hours I was never notified! would not leave a stray dog in their care, the stray would be better off on the street. They should...
Read moreHad our loved one there since July of last year in memory care. Took her out last weekend. Had to make numerous phone calls about having our oved one checked on because she was in her room for extended periods of time without her being checked on. Good thing I had the cameras in there. We had toilet paper and paper towels taken from our room several times. Our loved one was left in her room for approx 6- 7 hours without being checked on several times. Not even offered breakfast or dinner a couple weeks ago. I thought the residents in memory were supposed to be checked on every 2 hours due to some licensing the Blake has but it sure didn't happen. Had a male resident go into our loved ones room while she was in there (her door was left unlocked) and was on her bed. She had to yell for help and the staff had to physically fight with the resident to get him out of her room. Just recently, (her door was left unlocked again) a female resident was in and out of our loved ones room while our loved one was trying to sleep for an hour and 45 minutes going over to her bed waking her up going into her bathroom , etc until I called and got a hold of the nurse to have the door locked. There is alot more that has happened in the little time our loved one was at the Blake. It is just exhausting thinking about it. It looks nice on the outside but the residents don't get the care they need. If you have your loved ones there in memory care please put video cameras in their rooms. I can't even blame all the staff because there are a couple of the girls that were good and then some not so good but they are so understaffed that the few good staff were overworked and while the higher ups just don't care. I have contacted Rebecca and Margaret, and Alvna and even the new director of memory care now Kia who doesn't even answer his emails 98% of the time. Nothing changed. My moms showers were random/seldom. If she was lucky , she would get maybe one shower a week when she was supposed to be getting 3. I changed my mom's bed sheets the first 2-3 months she was there until I met Betty and she saw me changing them. After that, Betty and Allison (both caregivers one that isn't there anymore) made sure that my mom got her shower and that my mom's sheets were changed when they were working (so she at least got 1 shower a week for sure. Thanks to them. Not the management that's for sure). Those 2 also ended up cleaning my mom's room on Ocassion because it was RARELY cleaned to the point the floors were sticky. Soup was spilled by my mom's front door on the floor and I laughed every time I left from seeing my mom and said "Mom I see the soup spill mess is still here!". All the way up until the day we left. "Yup, it was still there. Still wasn't cleaned and mopped. Another person's review about this place was spot on: the Cameras in the room shows all the neglect there. And there...
Read moreIf you are wondering if The Blake at Hamlin is the place for your loved one to be loved and cared for, assisted when needed, and carefully attended to when it comes to personality and interest, the answer is YES. There are no words to express (other than writing a mini-novel whereas it might be too long to read!) of how much of a tremendous blessing The Blake has been to my family. From before even making the formal decision to transition my family member into this new home and community, significant time was invested by staff members to talk with us, to want to get to know the true needs of our loved one, to answer our questions and then listen and respond to our heart-felt concerns. From meeting with us, answering countless emails and phone calls, communication with The Blake has always been evident. The respect and sincerity toward my parent was present from the very beginning of the process, and that in itself, impressed us; the staff made it clear that they cared for my parent and wanted the best for him. The care givers received and welcomed taking care of my parent with open arms and have exhibited beyond-the-normal patience on a day-to-day basis. Since living in the community now for almost six months now, without a doubt, I can say that my entire family has said time and time and time and time again...we are SO thankful for The Blake. Our loved one is truly doing well. As a child of a loved one living in an assisted living community, to be able to say that my parent is well taken care of and loved and attended to and respected with dignity provides nothing but peace for my heart during this season and time period in life. So, again, without taking a second breathe, how do I respond when answering the inquiry as to whether The Blake should be the home for your loved one? YES is the answer, and you will be so...
