Just moved to the Houston/Summerwood area. I'd driven past this place several times & finally decided to drop in to have a look see. My boyfriend had already mentioned that one of my Christmas gifts this year would be a firearm. I already own & shoot a revolver but have been interested in a semiautomatic for a while. Well, who knew today would be the day that I'd get one?!?! Immediately upon entering the store, the two gentlemen at the counter welcomed me. One asked how he could help I explained why I stopped in & he lead me right to my new baby. After a brief look & a phone call to my honey, I became the proud owner of an Angel Blue PK380 (the last one of that color in the store). As luck would have it, it was on sale along with a great gift with purchase. Andrew & the other guy (sorry I didn't get his name) were 100% professional, courteous & patient. I've been to many privately owned sports shops over the years & most often the staff can be condescending, unfriendly & abrupt know it alls; especially toward women. But not here. Andrew took great care of me & treated me very well. The other staff member engaged me in brief converstion while Andrew did my backgroud check which took about 5mins. They both were appreciative of my business & having worked in customer service for more than 30yrs, that's a BIG DEAL for me. Nothing worse that being treated like crap when spending your hard earned money. I haven't used the range yet or taken any classes but TRUST me, that's next on my agenda. The retail store is modest but has lots of variety for a marksmans shooting needs. I'm eager to get back over there &...
Read moreI was looking into buying a handgun, so my brother visited to take me to try out a couple of his. Sportsman's Outlet was the closest range to me, so we decided to go there. I am sure glad we did! The staff was very helpful and friendly when we arrived. I was also amazed at how reasonable their prices were at the range. I had read reviews from different ranges where people reported how much it cost to shoot, so I thought that we would be spending a mint for as long as we were there, but it was not expensive at all!
After my first experience at shooting, I knew I was ready for a pistol but had no idea where to start. The gentleman behind the counter let me hold several guns to experience the feel of them and explained the different things to look for and consider. He knew that I was not going to buy one right then but still took the time to show me many different types of guns to hold. That is a class act right there!
My brother ended up buying me a handgun that evening. After how wonderfully helpful they were, my one regret is that he didn't buy it from Sportsman's Outlet. That being said, I do plan on taking lessons through them and using the range many many times. Also, when I'm ready to get my CHL, I will get that through them and will also get the firearm I plan to carry as well. Great...
Read moreI give this range 2 stars. The facility is clean and could be really. great, but it is nowhere what it used to be. Some of the rules of the range basically make it impossible to practice any real shooting skills; aside from bullseye shooting. No rapid fire, no headshots... But, the part that really through me for a loop was having to go back outside to clear my carry pistol... What???!! Why can't I point it in a safe direction down range and clear it? Nope, it's not that kind of range. I asked the kid working the register if they still had an IDPA club that shot there and he had no clue what IDPA even was. (I used to shoot IDPA out there 20 years ago.) The setup of the range is poorly executed, the targets hang so low that your round hit the floor before hitting the trap or ceiling. If they are genuinely concerned about keeping the range nice, they would elevate thee cable so that rounds would not chip away at the floor of the range, but it is not that type of range. Needless to say, I don't think I will be going back. The positives were that staff, while not all that knowledgeable, at least they were friendly. I think this says more about ownership and training than anything else. They have good intentions, but the execution leaves a lot...
