I took my touring bike in for a new drivetrain and brakes during my tour. I tour fulltime on my Specialized Roll. I am one of the most avid bikepackers in the United States, having lived cobtinuously on my bike for the last 13 years, touring around in the mountains of the western US.
I was prepared to spend $800 on upgrades and told the mechanic that. Against better judgement, I let him talk me into just a chain replacement. I figured, well ok, I get a new drivetrain and brakes after Christmas. He said my bike would be done the next day. I waited until the evening of the next day. When I came back, I discovered that they somehow broke my front shifter. I payed them $50 for the work of replacing my chain, and told them I needed that shifter fixed. I tried to argue with them that they needed to replace the front shifter for free since they broke it. But they refused. They said that they would order new shifters. On the third day they said that I would have to wait a week for new shifters to arrive by mail. Also the chain that they put on was totally uncompatable with my worn drive train; my bike was unrideable. I complained to the mechanics and to management. They brought out a new set of shifters from their stock to put on my bike. On day four I returned and paid another $50 for the shifters and for a new rear cassette. The previous evening the mechanic said that when they found a solution to fix my unridable drivetrain, that they would give me a call before installing parts. They didnt call me; they just put on the lowest quality 11-28 rear cassette in existance. I needed a much bigger rear cassette than that. I have all my life's belongings on my bike, pulling a trailer, and I carry two weeks worth of food to ride around the desert. They saw how heavy my gear and Bob trailer was; it was stored at their shop for 4 days. The shifters where also of the lowest quality. I was tired of interacting with them, and so I took my bike back.
I rode my bike straight to the other shop in town, Red Rock Bicycle Company, because both my shifting and my braking was worse than before I brought my bike in the first time. I ordered $800 worth of parts to get a quality mountain bike drive train, and quality downhill mountainbike brakes. The girl there working at the shop even went on a ride with me through town on their bikes so that I could see what quality components feel like. Way better service at Red Rock Bicycle Company.
....they are returned my bike to me, leaving the rear quick release skewer completely loose. I discovered this while mountain biking on the day after. Waiting on my new components to arrive from the the...
Read moreWent in with a broken dropper cable. They gave me a brake cable. I noticed that the diameter was different and pointed it out. They adamantly said it would work. I ruined my housing trying to get the fatter cable inserted. Now I need a new housing and a tool to route the housing. My under 10 dollar repair just got expensive and time consuming.
To respond to your reply: I stated I had a dropper post wire fail. I had the broken wire in hand and told the guy the wire being sold to me was a different diameter. I was assured it would work despite my concern. I am from out of town and no longer in the area so there is nothing I expect you to do for me. Just please in the future if an employee doesn't know that something will work say so instead of confidentiality selling the wrong part. I definitely did not insist on the brake cable, that was why I brought the broken wire in with me to make sure it matched. Only on the reassurance of the employee did I agree to try it. To their credit the part was replaced when I came in the second time with the information about the diameter difference pulled up on my phone. It was at this point I mentioned the brake cable like end, as the shift cable end didn't look right. The employee showed me an adapter and after confirming with the broken wire I agreed it was the right part. Unfortunately at this point the damage was done and I decided to go elsewhere for a new housing. I was not paying attention to faces on my first time through the store so I can't confirm if I was even helped by the same employee both times, but based on your reply I would guess not. It sounds like in your response I came up with the idea that I needed a brake cable. This is not the case. It was what I was sold my first time through despite asking about the diameter difference from the part I brought in. The second time through I did say brake cable as I didn't know a shift cable would work. I was sure the end looked different and had lost confidence in the staff, so I had to check the broken wire and see the adapter before trusting it...

My wife and I visited from out of town today, we wanted to experience "Gooseberry Mesa & Gem Trails". When we arrived we were greeted with a handshake and great enthusiasm.
The energy of this bike shop is like coming home from a long day at work only to have your kids and family tackle you at the door. Quinten & DJ Morrisette are the owners of the Hurricane Over the Edge Sports where they not only sell full suspension dream bicycles...they sell experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
Now I can see why Quinten & DJ have owned this shop for over 12 years. They have such a great love of people and the sport of mountain biking. Over the Edge Sports is situated at the base of the mountain biking Mecca in Southern Utah.
Quinten took us up the mountain and dropped us off at the top of the trail for us to experience what riding on full-suspension bicycles is like. He made sure we had water, bike pump, tool kit, and a map that my wife thought looked like a "treasure map". The map is made out of the same material you use to clean your glasses, "How Rad is that" ?
I also was amazed to know that they preserve the trails through the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as well as the city of Hurricane. Not only do they provide amazing bikes, they also care about the environment. They don't provide the standard name brand bikes you'd see at big city bike shops, they focus on quality, precision and comfort and offer mountain bikers specialty brands that are worth every penny customers spend on them. When you want quality & a fun experience you choose Over the Edge Bikes. I am glad my wife and I had the opportunity to experience a memory we will never forget. Thank you Over the Edge Sports, (thank you Tyler in customer service for taking us through the bikes answering any questions, extremely knowledgeable, he drives 30 miles each way to work at Over the Edge Bike Shop) now I know why they say, "Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life" ...
