La Plaza Market — Local services in Independence

There is a saying that goes a little something like this, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all." But there is also another saying that says, "the truth hurts."

This is the worst place you could ever go for lunch. First of all, nothing on their menu is made without some kind of meat item.

I ordered fried plantains and some corn torta thing cheese. I had to return them because they were fried in lard. This was annoying as the guy taking my order asked me if I was a vegetarian when I asked if there was lard in the refried beans. Only an idiot proceeds to take an order knowing that their food is fried in pig fat.

I order the torta with cheese and spinach and got a torta with cheese and a fleck of spinach. Seriously???

I was already annoyed as it took 30, YES 30 minutes to get these two piddly items. I'd understand this if they had been busy. There was one table with four people and two girls who were waiting in the take out line for their food as well. Plus the restaurant was so filthy as in none of the tables had been cleaned.

Oh and they are incredibly wasteful. I order two items and ended up with 5 separate containers. One for the plantains, one for the sauce for the plantains, one for the torta, one for the salsa, and one for some salad that comes with the torta. By the time everything was said and done, I flat out said to them... you guys are wasteful and you are ridiculously priced. I spent $10 on two items. WTF??? And then I had to go back to return it all.

Do not go...

The food is pretty good. I really enjoyed the carne asada tacos and the chorizo tacos. The horchata was not the best but the SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE!!! A to-go order was started and rung up and sent out AFTER I placed my order. The guy walked in after me! I ate my chips and salsa and drank my horchata and the waitress never checked on me until she brought the food 30 min later. Aside from the to-go order, no one else was there!!! She talked to him the entire time then sent him on his way then 15 min later I got my meal and asked for more salsa and a refill and she told me the salsa is SELF SERVE (does the waitress wasn't a tip???) I had a baby and was eating solo so I asked her to get it. She told me the horchata refill was not free and my order...

I visited this place with my brother during the pandemic. We were told they wouldn't serve is until we put a mask on. So we go get our masks and proceed to order. While waiting for our food a gentleman walked in and they gladly served him without a mask. I was so disappointed and it ruined any appeal the food would have had. The only difference I could see was that the gentleman without a mask could speak Spanish.... Lol update the restaurant has been shut down. I called asking about placing an order. The woman said we've been closed over a year and once again was very rude and hung up on me. Horrible horrible horrible business I wouldn't suggest them for anything other than a public toilet. Horrible...
