Nothing but Positive experience from Eskenazi Hospital! Quite by “Accident” we spent 11 days at your hospital. We saw it all from Emergency, Radiology, Surgery, Recovery & Patient Rooms & Dismissal! We traveled by car from Dothan, AL to Indianapolis for the National Championship game being played on January 10. Just 3 hours after our arrival January 8 in your City, my husband lost his balance & fell as we were getting out of my car to go into a restaurant. The wonderful people around us, as I now refer to as our “Indy Angels”, that so many we came in contact with in our unexpected Extended Stay, came to our aid and called an ambulance. Being from out of town, I choose the closest ER..thank goodness it was Eskenazi because our experience was as close to perfect as possible. My husband’s hip was fractured so surgery was performed but then after surgery, tests indicated a heart situation..he had had a small heart attack…thankfully the severe blockage was identified thru an arteriogram and a stent was inserted otherwise he could have had a massive heart attack. The Professional experience we experienced from day one to our dismissal 11 days later was 2nd to none for this out of town husband & wife. I want to name names & thank them…my husband’s surgeons Dr. Lee and Dr. Aravapalli, Thank You Both as well as operating staff. Thank you to the staff in ER as we were there for many hours because you were terribly busy on that Saturday and into the early morning hours of Sunday. Thank you to the 2 Transition Team members, Cameron & Jarita that helped us from beginning to end. Thank you to Nikki in the Recovery Room for keeping us both informed & calm, you were wonderful! To as many of the nursing staff that I believe were all on 9th floor as I could remember their names during our 11 days there…Abra, Tiffany, Kristin, Jason, Joe, Olayibo, Foluso…I apologize if I left any of the great nurses out. They were wonderful to not only my husband Hugh but to me as well as I went back and forth from my hotel room 6 miles away from early morning to night all that time. To the sweet lady that was at the desk at the elevator each time I showed my Covid clearance & ID to go up to see him. She always asked how we Both were doing. Wish I had her name. To everyone that helped us during what started out to be a fun 6 day road trip that we have done some many time that went a bit off track, Thank You from the bottom of our Hearts! I call everyone that “touched us, that reached out to us” in Indianapolis our “Indy Angels”. God Truly watched out for us with the Angels from the moment he fell to the moment the great organization “Grace On Wings” flew us home on January 19th..what a wonderful group of “Volunteers” they are for what they do! I wish everyone at Eskenazi that was a part of our journey could read of our Appreciation…Thanks To Every One Of You, Our “Indy Angels”! Linda & Hugh...
Read moreIf I can give this place less than 1 star I would. To say that this hospital lacks the ability to have transparency and will gauge you on prices, The hospital is the epitome of deceptive. They will not let you know what is being covered by insurance and the average patient is not a MD or an expert in medical billing so the average patient will not know what will be done at the appointment or what will be covered by the network with regards to a checkup, ultrasound or blood work. If the hospital does not know if someone's insurance will cover blood work, ultrasound or other aspects of the appointment than it is only fair for the hospital to have transparency so the patient can explore their options and not be impacted by $5000 bill for 2 medical appointments. My wife was also charged for medication that was not received. Paying that much is ridicules especially if this patient has insurance. Do not trust this hospital. It is located near the VA hospital which is ironic. As a disabled veteran I can tell you the VA hospital is phenomenal, and I am thrilled with the service I receive there. The only reason I obtained insurance is because my wife is pregnant. The fact that such a dishonest, unprofessional hospital is right next to such a spectacular hospital like the VA hospital is shocking. Please explore your options and do not let these hospitals poor communication and exploitative billing practices make you their next victim.! They're cliched automatic messages pathetic when they finally do call back all the pretty much do is try to excuse their transgressions and respond in a condescending fashion when you call them out on all their actions and price gouging. I literally read them the definition of price gouging and explain to him how they're practices are ludicrous and unfair and downright exploited.
It is the most condescending experience to call Office of Patient Experience. They did not take any ownership of their transgressions. If a hospital says they take someone's insurance that will initially give someone peace of mind but do not do a bait and switch. If the hospital is unsure what is covered by the insurance and are unable to do their due diligence to call and find out and the patient is mobile, vocal and it is not a matter of life or limb then let the patient know a head of time before services are delivered. At the very least let the patient know that the patient needs to call to find out. This Hospital is horrible at the following: providing patients with informed consent Ethical Billing practices due to overcharging patients Competency (I am Latino my wife is Asian, my wife does not speak Spanish so why the hell do you have 5 different Spanish Speaking interrupters call her!) Ethical billing practices as we were charged for medicine that we...
Read moreFor the past 15 years, I have been in excruciating pain. My hip and back hurt with every step! I loved to hike, swim and was very active! Then one day my life changed when someone on a cell phone used my vehicle for brakes causing my injury. I have cried myself to sleep due to the pain.
I have seen multiple Drs for my injury, had multiple cortisone shots, medication, and nothing relieved my pain. I took an average of 10 to 12 ibuprofen a day when I went off all the medication I was being prescribed. On bad days an additional 6 tylenol. This was causing havoc to my stomach and I knew I needed to find an alternative.
I asked my Dr to refer me to a hip Dr to talk about getting a new hip - I just couldn't deal with the pain, upset stomach from too much ibuprofen and the lack of activity. I had an appointment with Dr Aaron Watters, beginning of the summer, who went into great detail about what a hip replacement would entail. I said - yes put me on the schedule, this pain is too much to deal with. He goes - sounds good, I will get you on the waiting list. Due to coronavirus.
Then he asked me if I wanted a shot to reduce my pain. Anyone who has had a cortisone shot knows how bad they hurt. I told him, I have had so many shots and they just puffed me up and didn't get any relief from them. He promised, it wouldn't hurt, and that it would relieve some of my pain. I was desperate for pain relief, I said, I have nothing to lose, so yeah. Let's try it and see how it goes!
It went way better, than I ever anticipated, and it didn't even hurt! For the first time in over a decade I was able to hike, swim, and kayak without being in excruciating pain, making all those state parks, and mountains more beautiful when climbing them!
At my last appointment, he told me he also worked at Riley's Children Hospital as well as Eskenazi. Two very beautiful hospitals. I thought to myself, those Riley kids are so lucky to have him as their Dr! This stuff isn't fun for an adult so I can imagine how overwhelming it can be for kids! Rest assured Riley Kids and parents, He's an awesome Dr and has a great demeanor, explains things in terms that are easy to understand! As a patient, I would strongly recommend him as your Dr. without any hesitation. Your kids will be in awesome hands while receiving care, he's also a military man! Eskenazi patients all you have to...
