The office staff and both dentists are very nice and professional. However, their billing is dishonest and highly unprofessional. The first time I went to Dr. Amison in Dec. 2015 I was shopping around for dentists that accepted my insurance. I called them and they confirmed they were IN NETWORK with MetLife. Obviously I would never chose to go to an out of network doctor as that makes no financial sense and I was specifically seeking an In Network dentist. I should have verified that they were in network but I didn't expect them to blatantly lie to me.
I only found out they were NOT in network a few weeks ago when I was in for a broken tooth/filling and made the comment that my insurance was changing to a different provider and the billing lady said "oh that's great, we're in network for them." And I said "you're not with MefLife...?" And she said no...
It is absolutely unacceptable (and likely illegal) to claim to patients that you're in network, allow them to schedule procedures, and then bill them the higher out of network cost. I assumed this was the correct in network cost for these procedures based on their initial deception and trusted them and had no reason to question it.
In addition, both times I have been here I was quoted a price that I paid and then received a bill a week or two later that was higher (this time by $43). When I questioned them the billing lady says "we can only estimate what the insurance pays". Why is it that EVERY SINGLE doctor, dentist, or specialist I have been to in my ENTIRE life knows the correct amount the insurance is going to pay and doesn't turn around and add charges after the fact? It makes no sense, is dishonest and downright unprofessional. Why can I find the amount the insurance pays for procedures in my app on my iPhone, but your billing dept can't seem to figure it out?
Unfortunately their inability to properly bill people isn't limited to just me as they have reviews on many websites with similar issues. It's likely their existing and otherwise satisfied patients aren't even aware that they're being taken to the cleaners. Check your bills!!
It's unfortunate that their unprofessional and dishonest billing practices overshadow their otherwise very professional dentists and staff in a major way.
I plan to file a complaint with the Ohio State Dental Board and the BBB. Stay away from these...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am so very pleased with Dr. Amison and his team of dental professionals. I have been a patient of his for many years and will continue to seek services from his group. He and his staff are nothing less than exceptional as far as professionalism, empathy, excellence in care and knowledge, and folks I consider my friends. I recommend him to all of my friends in my long-standing nursing profession. The best in town!!! 7/19/23- Just back from the best dentist ever, who is prepping a tooth for a crown. Again, no pain, so professional and polite. Iāll be 64 in a couple of months and am always complimented about my teeth from friends. My parent wore dentures at a young age and couldnāt afford dental care when we were young. Dr Amison had his work cut out for him with my prior lack of dental care. Never did I think my teeth would be looking so good at this age!! Thank you, Dr Amison! You are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs someone who has high anxiety for dental work and TMJ and Autism to boot, going to the dentist is extremely hard. I had my first appointment with Amison Dental Group today and I can confirm that the staff is warm and supportive, they offer multiple ways to calm anxiety from blankets, weighted vests, stress balls, and time for breaks if needed. Each person from the front desk, the Dental Assistant (so sorry I donāt remember their name because I was very heightened when working with them, made me feel so much better and seen. They explained everything in depth at each stage), Dental Hygienist (Tawana, super nice, funny, gentle and thorough in their work, and comforting), Office Manager (Devon, who was so upbeat, accommodating, and genuinely loves her job), and Dr. Amison (kind hearted, non-judgmental, and gave me options to support my sensory needs and TMJ) fully explained what was going to happen at each step and checked in to make sure I was ok several times. I felt embarrassed by my anxiety and sensory issues but I then felt safe to just be myself and allow what was happening to happen. The offices are SUPER clean and to be honest beautiful. I thought I had walked into a boutique cosmetic studio and not a dental office. I am thrilled with my visit and though I was anxious, the staff and Dr Amison made me feel safer. I cried at the beginning because I was so nervous and then teared up at the end because I have never been treated like a valid person in medical offices with my anxiety, sensory issues, and Autism. I felt seen and supported at every step. Highly recommended for those with anxiety, sensory issues, and/or Autism to Amison...
