Canceled my membership after being there for almost a year just couldnât deal with it anymore. They rarely reset the routes which is annoying climbing the same routes over and over again. There bathroom shower has had a sign up saying itâs going to be fixed for almost a year now. The staff never remembers who i am. Probably because they have a relatively high turnover rate. Iâve been climbing at Stone since January 1-2xs a week and within the first month the entire staff greeted me by name when i would come in. They even have a weekly rotation where they reset a new section every week so there are always fresh new routes to enjoy. You can tell the people that work at the edge do the bare minimum to get to know their members. The last straw for me was today when i showed up with my girlfriend to climb. I was giving her a refresher on how to tie in so she could take her belay test and we could climb together and within 2 minutes a staff member told me âyouâre not allowed to teach/instruct peopleâ. I asked why not and was told i could practice in the parking lot so i grabbed by personal rope and went outside to practice. After 5 minutes i was informed by another staff member rental harnesses werenât allowed outside the building. At that point i got annoyed and grabbed all my stuff and told the woman at the front desk to cancel my membership. Canât wait for Stone -Jax to open. I truly hope this place goes out of business once stone is officially open. Save your time and money and go to Stone when they open. This place is a lost cause thatâs over run by random Groupon users. From speaking with other Edge members Iâm one of many who hold this...
Read moreI have been bringing my daughters to this place for years, but we will not be returning after yesterday's incident. A grown woman who was climbing shouted at my 8-year-old daughter, putting her hand out in front of her and claiming that my daughter was in her way. When I confronted the woman, she threw a tantrum, repeatedly throwing herself into a chair while huffing and puffing, rolling her eyes, and refusing eye contact. She even slid her chair aggressively away from us, even though we were there first. This left my daughter very upset, and she referred to the woman as the "mean lady who yelled at me." It's important to note that this woman wasn't even climbing at that moment. I was watching my daughter the entire time, and so was an employee standing directly behind me. My daughter was not in danger, and I wonder why an employee did not notify me instead of allowing this angry woman to confront my child if my child was in said danger? She did not speak to my child kindly at ALL which is why Iâm writing the review.
Meanwhile, the nearby employee did nothing but watch. When I asked him why this woman was acting out, he explained that the area my daughter was in was designated for ages 12 and up. However, no staff member had informed me of this restriction, despite my having spoken to three employees while we were there. If you value an establishment that maintains a respectful environment and takes action when customers yell at children, I would not recommend this place.
This is a warning for parents: be aware that this woman may yell at your children, and you might leave with an...
Read moreThis is the first climbing gym in florida that felt like a home gym to me, so much so that I drove from St Augustine 2-3 times a week for the two months that I was in Florida. I began coming here as a relative beginner, having just started climbing regularly and training with purpose. I certainly saw improvements in myself within those two months.
The bouldering grades are hard and tend to require some muscle, so beginners be aware of that and donât get frustrated. With repetition, I got stronger and was able to send more routes. The auto belay routes are great, and I really was able to build my endurance and skill with the array of fun grades that they set. Not that itâs all about grading, but I went from struggling up a 5.5 to sending most of the 5.7âs. The routes challenged me, but also helped me progress.
The fitness area is amazing, lots of space and variety, as well as a yoga room to stretch and cool down in peace. It had everything I needed to train alongside my climbing.
Finally, itâs a really welcoming gym. Every staff member is happy to help, welcoming, and kind. People are there to just climb and have fun, I never felt intimidated or unwelcome. I really wish I could just pick up The Edge and take it to New York with me, I was sad to leave it behind. Iâll always consider it the gym where I...
