Great course but I do NOT recommend booking the 'Golf Vacation' that includes "UNLIMITED" golf (if you actually want to golf more than 18 holes any day)
Their stay and play package that includes unlimited golf is a bit deceptive. In this package, rounds on Saturday and Sunday are free.
As Vermont natives we love this course and thought it was a great option for our group that loves to golf and planned a whole weekend/tournament around it.
We booked the stay and play for a bachelor party and added a round on Friday (which was $45 for the extra round I believe), and then we planned on playing 36 holes Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
We thought it was strange/unusual that we couldn't book our 2nd round on Saturday in advance. Most courses will let you do that, especially with an alleged offer of unlimited golf. Usually, they just require an hour or two buffer between rounds to account for potential slow pace of play on the course that day and/or lunch breaks between rounds. Jay peak would not accommodate a booking ahead of time. Which to be fair, is listed as a stipulation on the website when booking the package.
We didn't really think anything of it aside from saying "that's odd", but assumed they would just book our next tee time whenever we came in.
I think the biggest issue was when we finished our morning round on Saturday, they immediately told us it was booked up and there was no shot of us playing. When I went in to the pro shop to ask they acted as if it was never going to be an option and were honestly un-sympathetic and mildly rude during the whole exchange.
I want to add the disclaimer that while this was a bachelor party, this was not a rowdy group of guys and couldn't have been a "do not let the drunkards back out" type situation. Half of our crew doesn't drink and the rest of us were quite modest in consideration.
They had a group from Montreal come down and book tee times who said they booked that morning. Finding that out and quickly understanding how our rank on the priority was bottom of the barrel was disheartening. It was obviously a busy day on the course but it always is so it really feels like this probably happens MOST of the time where you do not get another round unless you stay during a super obscure, out of season weekend.
Ultimately, the gripe I have is around how it felt like there was never going to be an opportunity to play another 18, which would have been fine had it not been dangled in front of us while booking with the "of course, you'll just get your next tee time when you finish your first round" followed by the golf pro(?)/pro shop employee being semi rude about us even thinking we'd be able to play another round. It left a poor taste in our mouth and we ended up only playing 9 on the way out.
It's a great course that's incredibly challenging and well maintained. It's decent for the price too (normally)! I just do not recommend the stay and play package for anyone like ourselves who want to have a memorable, above-average amount of golf,...
Read moreGood conditions in August of 2025. Despite 90 degree temps the week prior, the whole course, even downslopes were soft and spongey. Some dried mud patches at the low area. Tees could have some turf maintenance. I have a feeling they need to work on drainage or ensuring areas are not overwated in hot weather.
Onto the good! Staff was extremely friendly and happy to accommodate us on the golf package. We played 3.5 rounds here over 2 days. The starter was really nice. Despite wider fairways than some in Vermont, many fairways are sloped so it is important to not just hit the fairway but hit the correct part of the fairway. Holes are on the long side, so you must be accurate with driver. I found myself laying up on some par 4's that were fronted by Jay Brook and some intimidating brush. Great layout. Downhill holes on the back 9 are spectacular but on 15 and 18 it is imperative to hit the proper part of the fairway. 18 being CPO was extremely frustrating at the end of a long round. I did find the fescue to be so well watered it just ate balls rather than watching balls take the slope on hillsides, etc. The greens were wrll maintained and rolled true. On the slower side. I think $125 weekend mid season with ample divots and spongey turf is pricey for the conditions, but for the price of unlimited golf and a hotel stay it is actually a great deal. Course just needs some agronomy tlc and I am sure it is challenging to keep a course that far north in shape.
The folks in the restaurant are great. Hannah and Rita were very friendly. Bartender and chef as well. Smashburgers with sis boom sauce are juicy and really good. Nachos are a solid choice. I believe the Clubhouse Grille/Sis Boom is the best restaurant at Jay (certainly my favorite). Don't sleep on...
Read moreVery nice course. Lots of tee box options and an area in the fairway for kids to hit from. It's hilly and several holes have areas where the ball has to be carried. So if you're someone who hits worm burners or hacks it around, you could lose a lot of balls.
Fairways and greens are very undulating, bent grass I believe, so the ball sits nicely but you may have a lot of uneven lies.
Course can be walked, and I walked nine. But it'll be a little work for the average guy. Cart has gps, greens are large, and many have different tiers for pin placements. They putt really nice though.
The staff was very accommodating with me getting out solo and I played several rounds during the week we were there.
One thing I found odd, and kind of got in trouble for. I brought my 16 yr old daughter out with me and we weren't paired with anyone. She's not a golfer, but since we're on vacation, she was welcomed company to hang out with me. The staff really have an issue with that when I returned. Not sure why.
Awesome venue for golf and lots of great holes with great backdrops...
