As a new Texas resident I was super excited to get box braids done and meet new people. My hair appointment was scheduled and booked for Monday, April 18th at 9am. I paid my deposit. After arriving to the location (which is an hour away from where I am staying) I waited an hour. Initially I was told (about 15 mins of waiting) that the hair braider would be an hour late. Not ideal but since I had set aside my whole day for braids I waited. Over an hour in Genie contacts me and tells me that she is very sorry but the braider cancelled and provided me receipts. I am a patient person so believe it or not this didn’t upset me, especially when Genie gave me the option for a 230pm appointment with her at the same location or to reschedule for the next day. I chose the 230pm time because I had set aside this day for braiding. Genie refunded me my deposit and even offered to braid my hair for free. So, I drive back home and eat lunch, relax, then head back on my hour drive to the location. I arrive, enter the facility, and see that her office has no one in it and lights off, so I quickly left and waited in the parking lot in my car. I notified Genie and waited…. For an hour. At this point I was now deeply disappointed. I contacted Genie again, and since I heard nothing, I left just after 330pm. I’m sad because I am starting a new job next week and wanted to look my best for it. While I’m grateful for the refund (that I didn’t ask for mind you!) I wish I could at least have been told of a cancelled appointment so that I wouldn’t waste my time or gas money. I find the ghosting to be unprofessional which is what leads me to this review. Genie started out responsive and professional and I specifically was told that she and another braider would be doing my hair. She scheduled my appointment for 7am and I arrived at 645 am and informed her I was there. She stated she was almost there I messaged her 40 minutes later cause she still hadn't arrived and she stated she had to pick up her other braider and she was 5 min away. Genie arrived at 733 am and another client was also waiting she started on the other client not me another young lady started on me. Genie then called begging someone to come in to help with braiding shortly 2 other ladies arrived and she directed one to me then another one joins I now have 3 different people on my head. I informed her that she stated she would do my hair and her explanation made no sense. I told her i was picky and knew her work not theirs. They didn't seem to understand how I wanted my ends of my braids doing it wrong. Then one lady braiding my hair stayed on phone talking loud constantly stopping looking on her phone and humming music in my ear At conclusion I can tell different people braided my hair and my hair is 2 different lengths long in front short in back. I paid 250 for uneven and skimpy braids. I contacted Genie she read my message and NEVER responded. I called from another number and she texts back saying text me please. She only wants your money doesn't care about your satisfaction she is so unprofessional. So unfournate for me cause I'm taking my hair down 250 wasted. She finally responded 2 days later after me leaving another message about her ignoring my calls and texts asking me when am I available to come so she can look at it. I am completely and totally beyond satisfied with Genie. I was taken back immediately upon my arrival and while Genie was completing a style on another patron, another young lady began my Faux locs. When Genie took over, she was not satisfied (nor was I) with all of the locs the other lady completed and Genie redid them. I was unaware that she was fixing them until she had almost corrected the last loc, she is extremely fast so it took her no time at all. My head was finished in record time and done with great positive conversation and professionalism. The shop was clean and welcoming, and the restroom was also very clean. As a bonus there is a beauty supply shop in the same plaza just 2 doors down. My hair is really soft so braids/locs tend to frizz within the first week. My locs have been in almost 2 weeks now and they look even better than they did on the 1st day because they’ve relaxed a bit. Genie also loosened them up a bit prior to me leaving with boiling water. I have also been told they look natural like they aren’t faux at all several times. I will most definitely be returning for my next style. I only wish I would have found her sooner. As long as I am in the Houston area and she is braiding she will be MY stylist. Don’t doubt her hands her heart or work. I assure you she will not disappoint. Thanks...
