My first time ever trying to visit a Gurudwara was a rather nervous affair for me for many reasons, but I was hopeful that if I came then I would be welcome and hopefully given some help. Not only were my prayers answered, but they were vastly exceeded. I entered the Gurudwara as a nervous man who for some time had sheepishly and cautiously claimed to be Sikh, but I left the Gurudwara with a Kara on my arm, a proper head covering, food in my belly, a full spirit of hope and wonder and love, and doors that have opened before me to help guide me on my life's journey. And all of this in the middle of a seemingly random Wednesday afternoon when I had a few hours to "break" from my work. I also had the opportunity to learn more about their culture and religion, which was truly enriching. They generously offered us some delicious food, and the next day we enjoyed a unique milk drink infused with cardamom and ginger—it was absolutely delightful!
