I would consider my wife and I to be "Movie People", a "Movie Date-night" is a pastime that we deeply enjoy, and something we do frequently. We have even taken the love for movies as far as building a high-tech theater within our home. Our decision to do this was a direct result of the declining state of theaters throughout America, and the unpleasant atmosphere associated. Imagine our surprise when we stumbled upon the Historic Strand Theater in Jesup, Georgia. While shopping at David's we noticed the the theater across the street had been reopened. The theater was a welcomed surprise as it was fantastically renovated with old world charm, historic decor, and personal touches. Although don't let this fool you, the Strand theater is in-line with the most current theaters we have attended during our search. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly hostess that asked us what movie we would like to attend, allowing us to pick the specific seats we wanted, showing us a tablet style computer to assist with the decision, the color coding allowed us to see which seats were purchased and which seats were unoccupied. The hostess offered us a discount due to military service which was pleasant, and as we had never been there before I had some questions about the atmosphere and amenities which were politely answered. Concluding our brief discussion we thanked her and walked to the concessions desk to inspect the options. We were again greeted by a wonderful young lady that was eager to answer any and all of our questions. I was surprised at the multitude of offerings that were presented, a restaurant-style kitchen was available with several entrees listed, the selections ranged from wraps to pizza, from water to adult beverages. You had the the theater staples of popcorn, candy, and soda, although neither my wife or I had eaten so having the option of a entree menu was a wonderful and welcomed addition. We took the time to investigate the T-shirt options available for purchase, buying two to assist with the promotion process and we hadn't even seen the theater yet. Wrapping up our food order we were politely informed that our food would be delivered to us within the theater and we were welcomed to take our seats and it would be brought to us promptly upon its completion. As we walked into the theater we were greeted with an Art Deco atmosphere, we observed exposed brick, fashionable lighting, industry standard sound reproduction capabilities, proportionate-sized screen, staggered rows, electric lounge chair-style seating, and enormous tray tables. The distance between the rows was ample, enough to recline in our seats without proximity discomfort. Everything was clean, and well kept. We observed the crew's cleaning process before we took our seats and it was adequate for food consumption, using the appropriate cleaning products to disinfect and sterilize prior to our foods arrival. The floor was not sticky, there were no unpleasant odors, it was steps above what you would normally see in most of your other theater experiences. The movie started and the picture was crisp and clear, the sound was delivered loud enough to be heard but not overwhelming. Reclining in our seats was accomplished by the push of a button located on the inside of the right armrest and it was easy to adjust to the perfect viewing position, the seats were extremely comfortable and once seated I felt as if I was at home. Our food arrived promptly and hot, the burger I ordered was a half-pound and cooked well, my wife's entree was well prepared as well, before leaving the staff asked if they could bring us anything else, this was appreciated since I did require a refill of my adult beverage which was brought back out immediately. The atmosphere within the theater during the movie was quiet and enjoyable, at no time was it offensive. The night at the Strand cost us roughly 100 dollars, although you needn't spend this amount, or even close this amount to enjoy yourself. Overall if you enjoy movies as much as we do, this is an experience you...
Read moreThis afternoon me and 10+ of my family members went to see Wicked. I ordered a few items from the menu while there. One of those was a pineapple slush as my oldest son always likes pineapple stuff. When they bring our concessions out they bring my son a strawberry slush. They said "I'm sorry but we're out of pineapple." No problem, I then asked that they just give me a refund because he wanted a pineapple slush. The girl says "Oh I'm sorry but we don't give any kind of refunds." My reply is simply, "but this isn't what I ordered so I shouldn't have to pay for it and you take it back, I won't keep it." She still can't offer any refund. 🤔 Ok.... I come up with another solution-- my son said he'd like chicken Alfredo. So I tell the girl "Why don't you just apply that $6 towards the Alfredo and I'll give you another $4 and we'll just get him the chicken alfredo instead." I'm then told that the food and drinks are charged separately and they can't do this either. All the time I'm trying not to say this--- "That is not my problem." Somehow this still ended up being my problem tonight as we were forced to keep the slush we did NOT order or simply receive nothing at all for a $6 charge that I paid. Staff members and the manager both came out to tell me the same things (meanwhile this is interrupting my viewing of Wicked). I was irritated but didn't take it out on the staff there as they are only doing what they were instructed to do. However and unfortunately, this owner of this business has not given his/her employees any other resources to navigate simple issues (like this) that may arise. A "manager" who can't offer a refund or comp. something isn't a manager at all. That's simply an employee with a different name tag. I think this owner doesn't trust his employees further than he can spit (otherwise they'd have some abilities to provide refunds and similar). He/she must think the manager/staff is incompetent and/or will steal. I hate that something so simple (which I had 2 different solutions for) became a problem for me today. I hope this review helps to make The Historic Strand realize they have a problem (or a few) themselves. I have no plans to attend this establishment again as simple resolutions can't be made on these premises. My advice: proceed with caution and at your own monetary risk -- as I felt completely...
Read moreI give it a one star because I have to. Below is the comment I posted to the facebook fanpage and instead of getting closure I was blocked. So here I share that as a credentialed mixologist during my employment they have stolen not only my pictures of my drinks but the drinks themselves. They dont have the recipes so they are mimicking to the best they can without knowing the ingredients or twists as they are MY SIGNATURE DRINKS.
"I see this has been brought to my attention. She did not make those drinks. Those are my drinks that I created for the Bistro. The one being all the way to left my Signature drink- Moca Island by Nelly Nightranger. The Center is Blue Hawaiian a popular drink I have made over and over in Savannah. And the Salty Dog with my twist another popular drink of any bar that a bartender should know. She took credit for all my creations and made them as her own. I have the original pictures to prove it along with the one drink she stole from me another signature drink. Yvonne spoke poorly of the owner behind the owners knowledge. I enjoyed working for the Strand Bistro. I enjoyed the customers. Mr.Ralph and his Wife are both very nice people. I was hired as a Bar Manager/ Bartender on the condition that I was allowed one hour off on Sundays so I can attend mass. Yvonne said that will work in the beginning. Then she disregarded everything. I fixed the bar to where it worked functionally. Creating drinks for the Strand Bistro. I will work for Mr.Ralph and his Wife anyday but never under Yvonne's Management.
In closing I am a credentialed mixologist and those are my Signature Drinks. Also those are my pictures as well. I took them and sent them to her.
