I was very pleasantly surprised to find One Love in Jesup, GA. Where I live, thereâs a a Jamaican restaurant (or two) on every corner and I thought Iâd be missing out on good food until I go back home. When the polite young gentleman at the front let me know they were out of a few things already, I knew I was in for a treat because you donât sell out of things if they arenât good. So letâs get into it. The Oxtail: falling off the bone as it should. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Pigeon pea rice: initially I wanted the red bean rice (or what we call rice and peas at home) but they were out so I opted for the pigeon pea rice. It was so good, Iâm glad they were out of the red bean rice because I probably wouldnât have tried it otherwise. The cabbage: flavorful and tender without being mushy or soggy. The mac and cheese: Itâs so good I would serve this at Thanksgiving dinner. The guava passion lemonade: immediately reminded me of bouncing around the Caribbean and South America in the summers. Overall, I LOVED everything I ordered. The service was excellent, and the afro beats gently playing in the background definitely contributed to a pleasant atmosphere. I think the awards on the walls are...
Read moreFor my beautiful people who love their chicken cooked with more than salt and pepper, this review is for you!!
I love Caribbean foodâIâve eaten it all over the world.
The first thing I was told when I arrived was a list of everything they didnât have, which was also posted on the white sheet by the counter. I ended up ordering the jerk chicken only because the menu was so limited. They didnât have curry goat, oxtail, or brown stew chicken. Even beef patties were missing.
I drove home, got comfy, and opened my food. My first thought was: Is that BBQ sauce on my jerk chicken? And why is it smothered in it? I took a bite and, yepâit tasted like regular store-bought BBQ. I wasnât impressed. I tried a piece closer to the bone, hoping for better flavor, but it had none at all.
I moved on to the cabbage⌠and couldnât even swallow it. Cooking cabbage right is a techniqueâif you know, you know. The rice and peas were probably the best part. It's not great, but it's not terrible eitherâjust okay.
Based on this experience, I wonât be coming back. But if youâre looking for an amazing Caribbean spot where you can smell the spices from outside the door, do yourself a favor and go to DJâs...
Read moreMy daughter and I are foodies and love trying new things. We decided to try this place after seeing it on Google with all of its great reviews. It did not disappoint!! The Chef greeted us immediately when we entered and offered us free tastings of the lemonades that he makes⌠the guava lemonade was delicious!! We ordered the oxtail over rice (rice of the day was red beans and rice) with Mac and cheese and plantains. (We shared these) Oh My! The best oxtails Iâve ever had! They were fall off the bone tender but not fatty like previous experiences with oxtail. Mmm My daughter order the Coconut Garlic Honey Butter Shrimp and Salmon with fried okra and the cabbage with shredded carrots. She cleaned her plate and was so impressed with the sauce, as was I. I ordered the Sunset sauced whole red snapper with fried okra and red beans and rice. It was AMAZING 𤊠The food was the best I have eaten in a long time! Then he brought us a sample of their spectacular banana pudding⌠it was so delicious, but we were so full!! The food was amazing, the service was fantastic, and we will definitely be back!! I canât wait to take the rest of my family!! 2 thumbs up and 5 stars âď¸ This is...
