The Kimchi Market — Local services in Johnson City

AWFUL experience here. they hardly have a selection here and even if I could have found what I was looking for here, I would have chosen to shop for it else where anyway. The older woman (possibly the owner?) was very rude, especially to my partner! She came out of her office and yelled at him to stop opening the cooler door that had produce inside. She told him to stop “playing with it” and when he apologized she blankly stared at him and walked away. We didn’t even realize that what he was doing was not okay, but I feel like when a potential customer is doing something that isn’t allowed they should be informed of it in a much less aggressive way. We were the only customers in the store and from the moment we walked in, we were being stared at by her. I felt as if this was prejudice on her part as we are a gay couple. I put the one item I was looking for that I could even find to begin with back, informed the woman of her awful customer service and foul attitude, and I took my business straight to the other asian market next to Little Chicago and had a much more pleasant experience. Maybe I’ll bring my business back and recommend this location to others if they can gain a better selection and if the old woman working there can fix her rude attitude but until then, it’s a one star...

The mother/daughter duo that manage this store are wonderful!

One of my most fond experiences here was during a major thunderstorm. They housed my family and me through the storm and bantered happily with us, even though their power had gone out. They were so kind that day, a much needed ray of sun to such a rainy day!

On top of all that, the produce at this store is always top quality for low, low prices! I can't tell you how many dishes are made from the wide range of product they have. They have treats and meals you can't find anywhere else! And their food bar is amazing!

This place is growing! Every time I come around they have new stuff, and they do that cool thing where they'll order stuff for you if enough people request it. I like that they've expanded their fresh groceries; they carry enoki and king mushrooms, which are hard to find around here. Both of the people who work here that I've encountered have been friendly and helpful in that way of, help you if you want, leave you alone if you don't, which I really appreciate. If you're into Asian cooking they have the heavy hitters as far as sauces and spices, and if you're looking for snacks they've got a robust ramen selection and lots of tasty chips and things.
