As of the time I'm writing my review I've lived here for almost 8 months. Initially I had intended to wait until I moved out to write a review because I wanted to make sure that I had experienced everything possible. However, I realized that I needed to write it now so that people looking for housing in the fall can have an in-depth review. Before moving in here I read every single review and got really discouraged but I eventually saw a review from a girl I went to high school with. She left a good review and set my nerves at ease and I decided to move in here because "people are more likely to share negative opinions" according to the office here at Uedge. My first complaint is about the noise. Now, I know that this is college housing and that kids will be kids and thats fine but when we moved in we were told that we were in the 'graduate building' and that this building was supposed to be quieter than the rest. If thats true I would hate to know what 910 and 914 sound like. Loud parties go Thursday-Saturday and some Sundays all fall and are a bit more sparse in the spring. Any noise complaint you place will be ignored and if you really want something done you have to call the police. Somewhere on the lease it says parties have to stay in the apartment and not spill out on the breezeway - lol that's not enforced. Additionally, the ceilings are paper thin so you can hear everything that happens above you including someone turning over in bed, conversations, or cabinets being close. Also, the train is very annoying and no you won't get used to it. Now, onto outside. Parking is a nightmare and towing is rarely enforced despite what they tell you. They may tow a few weeks in August and September but that's pretty much it. I can assure you that if you live in 906 you will come home often and have to walk a great distance because all of the spots near your building are taken up. At least once a week there are glass beer bottles shattered in the middle of the road though they are usually cleaned up by noon. A rule that is stated is don't put trash in the corridors - lol. Not only will you find countless beer bottles and cans but also cigarette butts, trash bags, fast food trash, vomit, and one time even a TELEVISION THAT HAD BEEN THROWN OVER THE BALCONY AND SMASHED (which remained on the ground for over a week). People also like to throw trash bags over the balcony. Also, they don't do anything about the dog feces that accumulate in the grass around the walk-ways because people don't follow the rules and pick it up. Another fun story includes this one time someones dog peed on the elevator and no one ever cleaned it up. For several weeks it was unbearable to ride but they someone threw mop water in it and that helped a bit. To this day no one has ever cleaned the elevator and you can smell the faint traces of dog pee. The staff also really love to come into your apartment and not give you a good time frame. "Between 9am and 5pm Tuesday through Friday someone may be in your apartment" honestly very convenient!! The air conditioner took multiple requests and several months to get fixed. Stuff breaks frequently and without explanation. Everything looks good but is literally so cheap. When they clean the apartments after people move out they make a mess. Paint permanently on the counters and floors, etc. The washers leave some kind of nasty white residue on clothes especially black ones no matter what detergent or fabric softener you use. Ever since I moved in I've had pesky little bugs (silver fish I believe they're called) that come in my room. They are only in my room and occasionally the common area. Before moving in here I had never seen one of these...
Read moreWhen you tour these apartment they make it seem like it is the best place to live and the only place to view in Johnson city! I am an non traditional out of state graduate student and I was not impressed the whole year. I was there. When you tour take a look around if you do not hear the train on your tour well you would be like most of he residents that live there because I think they plan it that way so you do not really hear how loud the train is. I had a sound machine and a fan and I still heard the train and felt the my apartment shake. If you like trains this is perfect for you! The apartment it self is extremely Tiny and if you are like me they put you in the apartment that has a problem every few weeks to where maintance has to come up. The rooms are small and not well managed!
The tenants here are carefree meaning they do not care if you have pets they will just drop glass trash and whatever else they can think of because they can. If you have a pet, well beware bc you will have to create a maze when you take your pet out bc tenants do not pick up there pets dropping so yes your correct bugs are everywhere and we'll try not to step in it. Yes they do provide bags but that doesn't help tenants pick it up.
Yes I had a dog the first semester living here but due my living arrangements my mom watched him for me bc some how you can just bring two destructive kitties in an apartment at last minute and just bc of the trash food and glass and whatever else around. Now yes the managers in the office did Wave my pet fee since he was not there but makes me worry since all my stuff is out of my apartment now will I get my money back because of these destructive kittens.
If you like to sit on top of each other at the pool we'll have fun. If you are in under classmen we'll this may be perfect for you not if your a graduate student. If you are tied to your phone and social media this place is perfect for you. The complex only communicates through social media and well I am not about that life at all. If you want to address your whole complex then you need to communicate in all forms flyers emails social media texts and so much more. If you want your graduate students to participate in events then please try to make only grad only events.
If you ever want anything done or have a problem do not go to the desk when you walk in the clubhouse you just need to walk into the offices bc they know your answers and can give you straight facts instead of the people at the front desk which will all give you different answers and they are extremely rude.
This housing set up is for undergraduate students mainly.
I will say having a washer and dryer in your unit is extremely nice !!!
The roommate matching this complex does is a waste of time don't even do it bc I wanted male and well I was living with three girls! Now that's to much for anyone to handle !!
The gym is pretty great I will say that bc I was training for a half during spring semester this year so treadmill were easy and always open. Not sure the point of the theater other then it is a wasted space.
It would be nice if they would have cameras up so they can fine people that throw trash etc l.
I moved out in May and rates are climbing and shouldn't be bc it is to much for what it is worth. They are making over 2000 for a four bedroom place and you find something cheaper in JC. I still have my key and will turn it in July bc no wants to sublease here. The mail forwarding for here isn't very good either I mean I still have mail there even though I am living at the coast in NC for summer!
I hope this helps for all incoming tenants! What your read here is all true! Just ask...
Read moreIf I could give Uedge zero stars, I would. Run as fast as you can away from this place. Live anywhere in JC but Uedge. After hearing horror stories about others moving out, I went straight to the source, the manager. I met with her personally and asked how we could avoid the HUGE move out charges others were receiving. She stated, "As long as the walls are not striped and rabbits have not been chewing on the baseboards, you will be alright. We are not out to get you like people review." That is easy I thought. We will paint and the girls didn't haven't rabbits. All is good. WRONG! I spent TWO complete weekends at Uedge helping my daughter clean and get ready to move out. We wanted to leave it in great shape. We scrubbed, cleaned, bought paint rollers and completely repainted. Anyone that lives there can tell you those bathroom are terrible, from the toliets to the bathtubs. The hard water stains don't come off easily, and once you clean it, it comes back within a couple days. The maintence men came in and said it was the cleanest apartment they had seen. We were thinking we were good. We left JC and Uedge better than we found it. We received our move out statement a couple weeks later, and we owed $1,700. Yep, $1,700. On the itemized statement there were things like replacing 7t year old carpet, pet fee that we had already paid a pet deposit of $500 and a "$30 monthly rental fee", and Stanley Steamer cleaned using a pet deodorizer. We also had to pay for the walls, as they were not painted "up to their standards." This is just the tip of the iceberg, as I could go on and on. You may appeal the charges as we did, however they only give you 200 characters to appeal. We couldn't get all of our appeals in that. They also stated they couldn't pull up the pictures my daughter turned in of the places on the wall when she moved in, so we had to pay that. The worst part is, if you don't pay it, they will ruin the student's credit. They have you right where they want you. You have to pay.
The furniture is the cheapest furniture possible, but if any of it has to be replaced it is outrageous. The particle board on the back of my daughter's dresser came off. That was all, not damaged in any way other than that. They charged to replace the whole dresser, and it was $435.
The manager was far from truthful when she said they weren't out to get you. Yes, they are! If you are thinking of moving to Uedge, you would be better off moving somewhere, anywhere else in JC. It would be way cheaper and less of a headache.
My daughter stated that the good reviews are friends of those that work there. So, if you see any good reviews, I wouldn't put much stock in them. Read the bad ones, and listen. Shame...
