I would give a zero if I could. My transaction with this company has been nothing shy of a true nightmare. Long story short. I ordered my building July 5, 2024. Communications with them have come most from me to them. August concrete was poured to their required specs and ready to go. I purchased this 40x50x14 shop as a workplace and informed them I needed it installed as quickly as possible. Weekly, I contacted them for an install date with... we will get back to you when we can get someone out there. My thought was if you don't have installers in this area why are you selling buildings???? Then they scheduled dates 3 or 4 times and canceled them. Finally, they called and schedule October 17 for the install. The day before my area was schedule for a severe thunderstorm so informed them of the event. They came out on Friday unloaded the frame work and said they forgot the rest of the building and would have to come back next week to install building. Saturday and Sunday my town experienced a horrific floor which washed away some of the material they left on the ground. I noticed them and fought with them for weeks about my install. They insisted they wanted to use the contaminated materials from the flood. December 8th the same crew that dropped the frame materials showed up and began to install the building. Day one I noticed several issues and expressed my concerns to the lead installer. These concerns were discussed with him daily and never corrected. When they finished the building on Thursday night I refused to sign the paperwork. The next day I was called by someone in the office asking why I didn't sign the completion paperwork. I explained to him my concerns. Three days later it rained and my roof leaked in several places. You could see daylight in numerous places, the panels were not set on the required lip of the concrete, they missed the frame with screws and removed them leaving holes, All three of the garage doors have issues. We opened one and couldn't close it because it was off track. After several phone calls, pictures sent and expressing my sheer disappointment with this company I was told in January they would send out an inspector and a new crew to reskin the building. January 28 I receive a call saying the crew was at my house to start on the building. When I arrived, I was SHOCKED đ˛ to see the same crew that originally I stalled the building. I asked where the inspector was and the guy said I'm the inspector. We are going to make some adjustments. I asked him if they were going to fix a certain thing and he said no. I immediately contacted Laura in Service to see where the inspector was and why they sent the same crew that created the mess to begin with. Nothing but excusses.... Now we are in February, 8 months since I ordered my building which I was told a 6 to 8 week install time and I am waiting for another crew to come out and reskin my building. They have stalled my business, created undue stress and have taken so much of my time without a care on their behalf. Nothing but excuses everytime I call them. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!! I will be filling a complaint with the...
Read moreMy salesman Rafael was great. The installers did a great job. Erect a 30 x 40 in 2 days - no complaints. However, I sent photos, dimensions, and drawing of my existing slab. None of which were used apparently because the 1st time installers showed up the pre-fab building they brought would not fit my slab. Oh well, take building back and cut rafters to fit slab. I ordered 2 16â openings. No roll up doors. Iâm doing sliding barn doors that are being built custom. I only wanted one pass thru door 36 x 80 and color matched screws. Thatâs it! Installers begin to screw metal with bright screws. Told them I ordered color matched. They said itâs not on their order sheet. ButâŚit was on my contract sheet! I call office and get told there wasnât any color matched screws on their order so out of luck regardless of what mine stated. Could pay extra but it would delay the job while they order them. So I go with the bright screws (not color matched). Towards the completion of the installation my installer asks me where the 2nd pass thru 36 x 80 door was going? I said it wasnât because I only wanted one and he had already put it in the right place so Iâm good. Except I was charged for a 2nd opening. Call office again! Told me to just deduct the price of 2nd opening from final price. GREAT! Guess what? The price I get to deduct for 2nd opening that I never ordered and the cost of my color matched screws I did orderâŚare within pennies of the cost of my color matched screws.
My only complaint is the inner communications of this company. The left hand doesnât know what the right hand is doing and more than that, the left hand really doesnât care about the goingâs on of the right hand. And thatâs how and for what reason Iâm painting my 30 x 40 workshop so to get color matched screws. Color matched screws to order = $315.00. Paint entire 30x40 workshop to get color matched screws = $1436.89. Thanks American Steel Carports. Your inner company communications or lack there of has really been a pain in my a$$.
UPDATE
After my review I guess the higher ups sensed my frustration. They in turn contacted me and offered to make things right. Shortly after this, a full crew came out and changed all the bright screws to the color matched screws I wanted. They did this at no additional cost to me. Iâm now happy with my shop as it is now the one I had originally ordered. Thanks American Steel Carports for making things right. I will give a 4 star rating to them now instead of...
Read moreIn summary, American Steel Carportâs inability to follow my verbal and written instructions 3 times over the course of 11 months had cost me over 5 weeks in delays on this project, $9000 in additional contractor work that I did not need to have re-done, $125 in city revision review fees, $350 in Engineering revision fees, and likely thousands more in custom flashing work after the building is installed, since the previous design had the walls hang lower than the outside edge of the foundation to prevent water intrusion, but the new design puts the walls on the center of the concrete curb foundation.
After having to escalate to several different employees due to lack of returning calls or emails, I get a call from the operations manager Nate, who agreed that their company should have made all requirements/expectations clear from the beginning with me to avoid all this. But he then tells me that the only thing he can do for me is refund the $350 in Engineering revision fee. He said he could not compensate me further without digging into the profits. I could not believe that, after telling him several times that they have costed me over $10,000 in unnecessary costs, he is even bringing up the idea of profit. The Engineering plans clearly state âScope of plans: to provide structural design for the pre-fab metal building per the specified design loads, and applicable building codesâ, yet this company has NOT abided by applicable building codes. If I am paying for Eng plans, this company has strict concrete requirements that I need to abide by in order for them to do a proper install, then it should be expected that they provide a proper foundation detail that abides by California Building Code, as they stated in their scope of work. I am very certain that I am not the only California customer theyâve had that is installing one of their garages permitted, so this company should know that customers need a sloped slab detail, not just assume all will be on level slabs.
