I’ve been a responsible gun owner since 2020 and am well-versed in firearm laws. Before making my first purchase, I thoroughly researched the regulations and consulted with the police to ensure I wouldn’t jeopardize my husband’s freedom. It is entirely legal to live with a felon and own firearms—as long as the felon has no access to them and is not in constructive possession of them.
Today, I had a deeply upsetting experience at Jack and Dick’s Pawn Shop on Washington Street in Junction City, KS. While legally purchasing a firearm, the owner, Chris, abruptly halted the transaction, accusing me of trying to buy a gun for my husband, who was simply waiting in the car outside. Despite repeatedly explaining that I was making the purchase for myself and fully understood the legalities, Chris refused to listen and continued to baselessly accuse me.
What’s worse, Chris went outside, took a photo of my husband—who has a teardrop tattoo as a tribute to a lost loved one, not for anything gang-related—and allegedly sent it to the police. He openly admitted that he judged my husband based solely on his appearance, saying, “That’s what gangbangers have in prison.”
To make matters even more humiliating, Chris pulled up my husband’s 14-year-old booking information and displayed it openly in the store for everyone to see. When I asked him what would have happened if my husband hadn’t been outside, he responded, “We would’ve never known, and we would’ve sold to you.” This made it painfully clear that his decision was rooted in discriminatory profiling.
The police never showed up because nothing illegal was happening. Yet, the damage was already done—through public humiliation, blatant prejudice, and unprofessional behavior.
This experience was dehumanizing and unacceptable. If you value fair and respectful treatment, I strongly urge you to avoid doing business...
Read moreI have been doing business with these fine folks for two years now. I have purchased firearms and pawned with them. I stopped by on 1/2/25 to pawn a firearm. They were extremely busy at the time, and I anticipated a wait. No problem for me as I wasn't in any hurry. The entire staff apologized to me as they were helping other customers at the time. I said I understood, and it wasn't a problem for me. When it was my time to be waited on, they gave me the best price for my item I could hope for, and were very friendly and professional. I really like doing business with them. They have a great selection of firearms and just about everything else. I would highly recommend this pawn shop as one of the best I've ever done business with in my 63 years. Thank you to the entire staff! Keep up...
Read moreThis pawnshop is unlike any other pawnshop out there… The owners are some of the most kind and loving people I have ever met. I have seen Chris go out of his way to be good to people and try to help them many times. I was one of those people once… and he’s been a lifelong friend ever since… never thought I’d say I was glad that God put a pawn shop in my path… but I sure am… when I moved away from Kansas, I literally traveled nearly 800 miles 12 years later to see these people again… they always have interesting stuff in the store… but the people are truly the best part… all these years later and I still got super excited when walking into Jack and Dicks. They set the...
